Politics n' schitt is a hard dog to keep under the porch for any forum administrator.
I casually frequent a US based Telecaster forum which is,most highly moderated.
OFF LIMIT SUBJECTS:
Some subjects cause nothing but trouble, so no posting about:
1. Politics - ZERO tolerance of anything political
2. Religion
3. Sex (including improper photos or videos)
4. Drugs - usage, laws, legality or paraphernalia
5. Current Wars or national disputes
6. Gun rights or politics
SENSITIVE SUBJECTS
On a public forum it is best not to discuss intimate and sensitive subjects. Please do not post on subjects such as Divorce, Spouse Abuse, Family Fighting, Addictions, Sexual Identity, Transgender, Psychological, Mental Heath, STDs, Sexual Dysfunction, Bankruptcy, Credit Worthiness, Eviction or other subjects of a sensitive and intimate nature.
No mention whatsoever is allowed concerning the Covid pandemic. This took a bit of getting used to for some.
The above is only a snippet of what isn't permitted, there is a lot more fine detail. There is no discussion with mods,if you are seen to transgress, you are banned. How many times have they banned you moth?
Funnily enough TDPRI is a very active forum, those seemingly crazy restrictions are anathema to some, but make a much more pleasant browsing experience for a large section of others. They've said outright,if you don't like the rules, then fuck off.
Personally and as I've said before,I have no dog in this fight, but some of the others who enjoy the current affairs side of the forum,do contribute constructively elsewhere.
From Weeksy's point of view,if he wasn't having to deal with a tidal wave of reported posts everyday, would he feel duty bound to care that much? It seems to me,those doing the reporting need to stay away from the threads which cause them to be exercised. I read very few politics threads and contribute to even less, mostly because IDGAF. I don't see myself as even having the right to report on that stuff.
So until the bile spills over onto the bike parts of the forum and I'm calling Tiepin a dick for riding a Honda and voting Tory, then how about those with the twitchy reporting finger backing off from threads of no interest to them and giving Weeksy and the team a rest?

See now we've done quite well out of that list. It's only the politics that we have really had rearing their ugly head.Skub wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 2:18 pm OFF LIMIT SUBJECTS:

Are you allowed to talk about synthetic oil on the Telecaster forum?

1. Saint Savio, AKA Docca- no matter how hard he tries (and from what I saw, he was being a very good boy for quite a while here) , he can't keep his obvious hatred for certain politicians and his often quite unpleasant personal insults in check ,and he had to start letting it out sooner or later- what I saw was mild IMO, but it looked to me that it was probably the straw that broke the camel's back and fucked it up for the rest of us- If it was, thanks Mate
2. Potter, AKA Iccy- A master at the art of goading people, and it can definitely be entertaining to watch. He has Docca's measure and that get's right up Docca's nose, as can be seen. Also provides value content on the motor-bikey stuff.
No idea why I’ve earned the moniker Saint- but I think you’ve had a particularly skewed view of me ever since the exchange you had with some airhorn on TRC ( where, and I’m sure the irony isn’t lost on you, you rode in to misguidedly protect someone’s honour).
Ever since, you’ve been a bit snidey and have either purposefully or unwillingly formed views of others. Be a better judge of character. Squarely fall in to the ‘nice guy in real life, bit of an antagonistic spoon on a forum’
I’m unaware of my making personal insults outside of the exchange I’ve had with Iccy. He’s a troll, they feed off that. It’s part of the dance. Your comments about ‘getting up peoples noses’ are again misguided and somewhat ironic, given your own continued axe you seem to grind in your perpetual, passive aggressive way.
Perhaps evaluate what you find entertaining and what you find offensive, and why? It might help you find out more about yourself.
I stand firm that if you’ve taken the time to report anything here, then you need to get a bit of a life. I have no idea what post you are referring to with Iccy that triggered this response, but if you do then perhaps it was you who reported it?
Hope the above makes people smile and taken in context and whatever else people want to kid themselves about.
P.s- I’ve not knowingly commented on any politics thread, although that recollection could be entirely incorrect.
And as the dozy, "been nowhere, seen little, done nothing" sort of young boy that I am with very little experience of people or life, I would also like to express my deep and heartfelt gratitude to you for the free expert advice you've graciously given me on how to find out more about myself.
I will do my best to follow it- I'm sure it will enrich my life, well, almost maybe a little bit sure
But.... in addition to insightful and valuable advice, you do also sometimes come out with assumed, blinkered, subjective (IMO ) and/or holier-than-thou pretentious bollocks a fair bit too matey, so I would also like to try and straighten out a couple of misapprehensions you appear to be under.
You're of course going to have to read this for me to be able do that and I realise that might not happen, but I'll type something anyway:
1. I've never ridden in to protect anyone's honour- If I thought you were being a dick or offensive on TRC, and felt strongly enough about it I would have said so to you, and I do remember doing exactly that on one occasion- can't remember the poster's name that caused it to happen and yeah she was a master of spouting shite and whosh-ness but that didn't justify your behavior towards her as acceptable in my book and I chose to tell you that in an open forum. At no time was it with any intention of protecting anyone, it was simply because I thought you were being offensive and bullying, and I felt strongly enough about it at the time that wanted you to know it. That is all- no biggie to me.
Who knows, I might even do it again too (yeah I know, oo-err exciting eh ) if I think you or someone else are doing it again and I can be arsed, but be assured, I won't ever report you.
You got a mention by me here for the insults you hurled at Saga Lout and Potter in the Astra Zenica thread, that's my only contribution. I didn't report you, or anyone else. As I also said above, I didn't think your insults bad at all, but there is no doubt in my mind that they were in contravention of Weeksy's rules and a major contributor to him throwing his toys out of the pram and taking the action he did and that's all I said - look at what you posted in that thread and/or his rules up if you can't remember and it bothers you enough.
2. Reporting posts - that is something you and I are in agreement on- it's something I've not done and don't see myself doing- I'm a grown-up and if a post bothers me enough to respond, I'll point it directly at the poster, as you know.
It's a similar sort of thing with ignore lists for me really, I've never seen the point of them, I'll just manually ignore posts if I don't like them. Perhaps I suppose as this, or any forum is a very small part of my life, and not something I can ever see myself getting too bothered about.
Anyway, enough of that- I have masses to be thankful for, and relatively speaking, all is good in the world with me, as I genuinely hope it is with you- I've got no axe to grind or interest in creating friction with you or anyone else here, and like you, I genuinely hope that the above makes people smile, and taken in context
Weeksy has reversed his decision, for the moment at least, and you and the others I mentioned in my post above are still here which I think is good, and the forum is a more interesting and better place for it so it's a from me

Tends to spill over into all the other sections. Once someone with very strong views decides someone with opposing views is a cvnt and an idiot, they're a cvnt and an idiot whatever they're discussing, whether it's trackdays, which brake pads are best or or how to change the headrace bearings on a 1998 ZZR. They'll often reinforce their views with a provocative avatar.Taipan wrote: ↑Wed Feb 10, 2021 12:57 pm Weeksy, open a subforum, call it, say, The Bear Pit. Make it an "Anything goes" unmoderated forum and (if possible) remove the report post facility. Wash your hands of it and let people get on with their bitchfest. That's got to be less work than dealing with people reporting posts (seriously wtf does that! ), cancelling the subforum then reinstating it?
The Rev Counter is rife with it. There's people on there who wouldn't live long if they dared to speak face to face to people they don't know the way they speak to them when hiding behind a keyboard. And they're invariably not nearly as bright or as well informed as they like to think they are. And definitely not as brave when you call them out by PM to meet and continue the discussion in person (as I know...) And they don't really want a debate because they never ask questions, accept sarcastic rhetorical ones, which aren't questions at all, they're just bait.
Even Adv Rider in infected with this disease, and they're nearly all east coast liberal yanks who never use swear words. These bearpit/basement/soapbox etc subforums are all very well but they're a Trojan horse for trolls.

Re: Discussion within the US politics thread. Section closed. What to do with 'Current affairs/Politics' forum debate.
I have wondered on here and TRC if reporting was used as a tactic to shut down topics people were 'losing'. A bit like the way small numbers of people pressure Facebook etc. into silencing others they don't like.
Difficult as I guess Weeksy can't ignore them, they will scream victim blaming if they are shut out of those topics and Weeksy doesn't want to spend his life dealing with it.
I don't know what the answer is but I have found several of these threads informative and witty so I'd like them to hang around but hopefully without turning to previous levels of name calling*.
*Zrx61 excepted as I don't think he knows their real names and even if he did I wouldn't know who half of them are.

IT's pointless discussion the who would have reported, who shouldn't do this, who said that. I'm simply not going to discuss who did or didn't write anything, on what days and why or what i did. It's private information, so you lot discussing who may have said something once is just silly. The simple fact is, when the discussions have not been allowed i've had NO reports ever... Well apart from a couple of "oh, can you just delete this please.." which is fine and lovely, no issues there.
Just because you guys don't see anything to be offended by, doesn't mean it didn't happen.
MAybe that's partly my fault for laying down the rules so early on regarding personal insults etc as both me and the mods have been quite strict on enforcing that, gone are the days when you can call someone a wanker for a comment, maybe that's on me, i don't really know

IMO you're right about no insults, they add nothing and possibly even deter new members.
