Here's a thought: The people who subscribe probably subscribe because they think you're already doing it right, so why wouldn't you want to know the opinions of people who think you're doing it wrong? I don't think you're doing it all that wrong, by the way*, otherwise I wouldn't still be here, but surely you don't want an echo chamber.
I'm 100% happy to be told i'm doing things wrong. Please don't ever think that's the case.

Maybe deleting the politics section instead of closing it was 'wrong' if so, then i apologise. However, you still wouldn't be able to post in it.

Not this old man. :)
There has been nothing overtly warranting that reaction, so if it’s just that people disagree with a point of view or that they don’t care for the likely overspill of emotions- then we are squarely into nanny state territory.

If you don’t understand that entering into trigger-point debates such as politics will result in robust views that you may not agree with, then that’s your loss. Stop being so petty.

I firmly believe I have the right to be offended. Some of the views I simply won’t agree with, but I respect their right to be stupid. Some of the most heated discussions have spilled out into friendships etc. There are limits of course, but it seems that some of the readership have an incredibly low tolerance threshold. Or a desire to censor views that don’t align with their own.

If you are genuinely submitting reports on other posters, ask yourself why? Then grow up.
Hear, hear.

Not only do I believe you have the right to be offended, I also believe I have the right to offend you?

Of course you do. I don’t hate you as a person, I hate some of your views etc. You have the right to get up my nose and I wouldn’t want to lose that.

Yambo- I’m not excluding myself from the middle aged club - it was just an observation about people of ‘this’ age feeling the need to bleat to a moderator.

Sorry Weeksy, bad decision.

I think this will end in a boring forum, just like all the other boring forums. There are 1 or 2 posters on here who hold views on eg US politics that I think are stupid. I do think they have a right to be stupid, I don't have to read their stupidity unless I want to. I have no doubt they hold similar opinions of my views.

Ban people who step over the line (eg inappropriate PMs, cross posting to harass people, etc), but please don't stifle debate. People who only want to talk about motorcycles can easily avoid threads that are obviously about something else.

I won't threaten to walk, but I might if this place gets too boring. I probably spend a lot less time here than on TRC, partly because it is a bit quiet in here at times.

I understand completely.

On your heads be it fellas... I think you're wrong personally. But as i've always said "it's as much 'your' forum as it is mine"

As long as you can see if there's a pattern in the reporting. If it's all coming from one or two individuals then maybe it should be taken with a pinch of salt.

I'm not sure where the poll has gone on allowing political stuff? What was the result of it?

That one ?

The problem with that comes with, whilst it's great that you all say "sure lets leave it there"

I actually have a job, life, wife, son, etc... I can't spend tonnes of my time sorting through the shite. I can't be doing with people ranting, whinging and whining to me "oh he was out of order, he's picking on me" "why's he being such a troll" how the fuck do i know, why not ask them instead of whinging to me about it.
That's the problem with people in some ways, instead of PMing the particular person (in a nice way of course) instead, they send all their rantings to me. Which is OK in some ways, that's the role i've taken here. But don't forget the above.. I have a life, i don't actually give a fuck if person XSZ disagrees with person ABC, i don't care if your politics are not aligned.. I do care if they're insulting you, threatening you, etc.... Of course. But for the love of GOD some people sometimes just need a shoulder to cry on.... I'm not that person :D

Yeah that one - pretty even then.

My opinion, for what it's worth, is that it was better off in its own section as you previously had it. You can make it visbile only to users that have logged in and (if possible) give people the chance the hide the section if they want to, and totally ban it in GM.

I don't have the option to give people access to 'hide' sections i'm afraid, that's not within the software.

I can stop users from having access to particular sections though yes. So i could do it so only members have access, but that's harsh. I'm not sure if it can do it so only logged in members have access, but again, i'm not sure that would change much.

I think only letting members see the political stuff can be a good thing, especially if you think seeing the dirty laundry may put off prospective members. Stick it in a cupboard, out of the way. Let people go looking for it if they want to find it.

I don't. I / they / you should grow a pair.

But I can totally understand that folk get offended by different levels of 'insult'. This place obviously feels this is a lower level that the previous place.
I can totally understand you don't want to have to deal with it.

You've tried this 3 or 4 times now - same result - how many more goes do you want at it?

Personally I'm trying to refrain from posting in politics threads because it seems my "lefty!" point-of-view is not acceptable - it's "negative", maybe even "unpatriotic" and, heavens, as an non-resident I don't have the right to say it apparently. If that's the majority view then yes I'm, mainly, out. These threads serve no purpose to me if I can't take part.

Without pointing fingers, is it the same subset of people reporting posts and messaging you?

Even in the worst exchanges here I've never seen anything that I would be particularly offended at.

2. Potter, AKA Iccy- A master at the art of goading people, and it can definitely be entertaining to watch. He has Docca's measure and that get's right up Docca's nose, as can be seen. Also provides value content on the motor-bikey stuff.
Apologies, I missed this first time around as I tend to not notice what you have to say.

No idea why I’ve earned the moniker Saint- but I think you’ve had a particularly skewed view of me ever since the exchange you had with some airhorn on TRC ( where, and I’m sure the irony isn’t lost on you, you rode in to misguidedly protect someone’s honour).

Ever since, you’ve been a bit snidey and have either purposefully or unwillingly formed views of others. Be a better judge of character. Squarely fall in to the ‘nice guy in real life, bit of an antagonistic spoon on a forum’

I’m unaware of my making personal insults outside of the exchange I’ve had with Iccy. He’s a troll, they feed off that. It’s part of the dance. Your comments about ‘getting up peoples noses’ are again misguided and somewhat ironic, given your own continued axe you seem to grind in your perpetual, passive aggressive way.

Perhaps evaluate what you find entertaining and what you find offensive, and why? It might help you find out more about yourself.

I stand firm that if you’ve taken the time to report anything here, then you need to get a bit of a life. I have no idea what post you are referring to with Iccy that triggered this response, but if you do then perhaps it was you who reported it?

Hope the above makes people smile and taken in context and whatever else people want to kid themselves about.

P.s- I’ve not knowingly commented on any politics thread, although that recollection could be entirely incorrect.

Weeksy, open a subforum, call it, say, The Bear Pit. Make it an "Anything goes" unmoderated forum and (if possible) remove the report post facility. Wash your hands of it and let people get on with their bitchfest. That's got to be less work than dealing with people reporting posts (seriously wtf does that! :wtf: ), cancelling the subforum then reinstating it?

Or alternatively the whiners who want a bear pit could start their own forum

The partisans don’t want a “bear pit” of passionate argument.

They want to spread their message, in absence of contradiction.

This is just a political disagreement issues, we're not talking about creationists organising the mass execution of big bang theorists ,or paedos peddling child porn. Its just some of the forum members throwing their toys form time to time! But, yeah, I do take your point, shame though as in the midst of the shite, there can often be interesting points made and ones that have often changed my mind on matters. TBH, I'm still struggling with the thought of people on here go crying to weeksy over their hurt feelings ffs!

this has to be the ultimate concern - if folks want to hurl abuse at each other on the internetz , that is fine. As long as those individuals running BBs and hosting sites are not responsible for the bigoted attitudes and comments there in ....
