I like his vids cause I would never get the chance to look inside cars otherwise, he's trying to sell stuff though so he inevitably keeps the juicy details to himself.

Couple of interesting things though. He points out that the Teslas have little oil filters on the motor/transmission, but he kinda neglects to make the connection between motor cooling and gearbox oil. I suspect he knows whats going on there but deliberately didn't say. He did mention the oil cooling seals on the motors though....

He is way way too gung ho with the magnets Those permanent magnets are very strong and can do you a serious injury if your get caught between the magnet and a steel surface. By way of example, I've seen things explode into little flying fragments when two rotors accidently slam into each other. We keep anything that's been magnetised in yellow crates so it's immediately obvious. We certainly don't jab screwdrivers into them.

This news surprised even me...Norway became the first country where more people bought electric cars than combustion engined ones. 54% of new cars sold there in 2019 were electric.

Not sure why the figures are a year behind, I wonder if 2020 will be the same trend.

But while the market as a whole has suffered over the past year, sales of electric cars have risen dramatically, increasing their share of the market from 1.5% to 6.5%. Sales of plug-in hybrids also rose sharply.

"If we see this continued level of uptake in electric vehicles, then we anticipate that sales of new EVs and plug-in hybrids will overtake diesel cars in 2021," said Ian Plummer, commercial director of motoring website Auto Trader. "Then, pure EVs will overtake those of their internal combustion engine counterparts in 2026."

Although a % market share increase of a vastly reduced total.

I think a significant chunk of the 2020 trend was driven by Tesla's online sales though. They carried on selling cars while everyone else shut up shop.

IIRC Norway has huge grants for EVs making them an economical choice.

Norway is quite funny in that they give extremely generous grants for clean energy etc. The reason they can afford to do it is they have a HUGE sovereign wealth fund built off their oil industry.

I was looking at Ford's yesterday (looking for a vehicle for work and prefer Fords for some reason!!)

They have an electric Mustang!! Am going to have to go down and visit a dealer to find out more!! LOL And then find out if there is a plug in point I can get to up here!! LOL

Sad thing is that, like the Jaguar, it looks like it really only seats 4. It does say five but from the pictures it looks like the 'middle' seat isn't particularly comfortable

I know. It's a bit wrong cos the Mustang looks and sounds AWESOME!! (On my list to drive!) But I think I need to look at getting electric vehicles and there is already a company in the valley with a few Teslas. Not that I'm against Tesla, but would love it if Ford did a car I could use!! LOL

No probs on snow - it's all about how heavy you make the accelerator!! LOL

Interestingly, talking to a few other transfer drivers, the guys don't like the automatics on snow and the girls do (broadly speaking) - I figure the boys want to make the minibus go faster and the girls are ok to wait for the auto to kick in and start it moving under its own power (less slippage on the snow!!)

In all seriousness electric/hybrid vehciles should be loads better on snow. They don't need a clutch (the electric motor will happily spin at 1rpm, it doesn't have a minimum speed like a conventional engine) and they are much easier to control because there are far fewer moving parts. Therefore you can have as much torque as like/don't like at whatever speed you want.

Still waiting for someone to explain what happens when we go all electric & some bugger sets off an EMP weapon... altho tbf, all it takes to bring everything to halt where I live is for the weather to get a bit blowy & they turn off the power.

In the valley would be the best place for EVs. They start at the bottom with a full battery, run it low on the way up and regenerate going back down again. You wouldn't get as much range out of the same charge.
