How far are you gonna ride in a 20 minute session? 90s-2 minute laps means you're gonna get 10 in at most? So that's gonna be 20-30 miles tops?

Then you've got 40 mins (probably more like 20-30 including faff) to charge up before doing it again.
My Multi uses fuel on the road when playing so i need to fill it about 145-150 miles, 180-190 steady use. On track i managed 4 sessions before i ran out and needed a top up from some helpful idiots nearby, so probably less than 100 miles.

So in theory with that leccy bike you start the day with a full charge you can keep topping up through the day and always have enough left to play by the end of the day

Mr. Dazzle wrote: Mon Jan 04, 2021 12:02 pm The bike in the OP is 270kg, that's almost all down to the battery. The frame is not significantly different to a normal bike and the 'engine' is a lot lot lighter.

So you can see how much a battery pack weighs! You ain't changing that without an engine hoist. Technology is gonna improve a lot for sure, but by that token you could also argue you won't NEED to change the battery.

EMTB batteries are much lighter because they're much smaller AND because they don't have the power. Capacity and peak output both matter.
Alternatively you could get away from the whole "I need 142bhp on a track bike" mentality, things like TZ250s were 50 - 60 bhp and were great to ride on track, a battery that gives 60 bhp for 20 minutes could be a lot smaller than one that gives 142 bhp for an hour. 7 of them in your van and you're done for the day.

Fast chargers through out the paddock and the necessary grid infrastructure to feed them is going to cost millions - tracks don't make millions in profit.

Yeah good luck with that. You're not in the same mindset as 90% of trackdayers. the 90% don't think you need 142... they think you need 50 more than that, anything less is just playing.

I think millions might be overstating it...dunno. Couchy installs these things for a living AFAIK, maybe he knows.

But as above, they'll probably have to do something eventually or go under.

IIRC Very roughly, a domestic one is about £1k - dependent on being close to the main feed to the house.

However, if you have to build a row of garages then run power to it, the price would rise a tad.

If its all about the environment, in reality, occasional sporting events or even weekend meetings would and should be fine to continue ICE.
Getting the masses of the population to change for everyday use to EVs and HGV to EVs would make more sense. Spread that theory around the globe and we might be getting somewhere and maybe improve our environment. But generally, these ideas aren't interesting enough. 🤷‍♂️

Unless someone is paying you to do it, it's all just playing.
If everyone is limited to 60bhp, then you don't need 200bhp to be the fastest, though why it matters who's fastest on a trackday is beyond me.

You don't need to convince me. I've been using a 70bhp single for the last 5 years until recently. The rest of the paddock, you've seen yourself. Stuffed full of 1000s.

That's why I adore the extravaganza events, there's very very rarely anyone on an appropriate bike and very few using warmers, in fact most years it's only Mrs Weeksy who has warmers and her and jazzy are the only sportsbikes.

I do find people in Novice group with tyre warmers amusing, the amount of time we're hanging about waiting to go out negates the point of having them, and they're never any faster than me on my hard compound Contis and 60bhp (assuming my 30 year old 400 is still making that much)

We only have your word for that as you're too scared to play with the big boys down at Pembrey.

You're welcome to come to Snetterton, I don't know if I can even be arsed to go to Cadwell this year.

I've been, it was rubbish. Lol.

Seriously, it's actually IMO the worst circuit I've ridden. Apart from the bombhole there wasn't a decent corner on it.

If I had to ride slower bikes I'd never had done trackdays.
To me it was all about controlling the beast which is why I'm also against electronic toys.

When I rode the Haslam days on CBR600s we just pinned the biggest out of the corners.

But we are all different.

I get that, it makes sense and it's why many people do them.

I go to them and ride whatever I happen to own, good or bad, but I just ride for pleasure. 99% of times I could leave the bike at home and it wouldn't matter a jot

I did a trackday on my R1 in 2000, it was great fun, and the only time I used it properly, and the only time I've had the rear end of a tarmac bike sliding around , I'd happily use a 98 R1 again on track, I think it would end in a big high side though.

Are you sure you mean the Bombhole and not Coram?
I don't like Donington but loads of people love it, but it's only because I can't get my head round the racing line for it, it's taken me ages to get my head round Snetterton's new (to me) layout, but now I have I really enjoy it.
