Arguing with some members of my family on Whatsapp about them deciding to go to a beauty spot, because, in their eyes it was justified as they were socially distanced! FFS!

Dyfed Powys / South Wales Police need a right talking to.

'''A court has fined people who breached Covid-19 travel rules thousands of pounds in a single day.

Magistrates in Llanelli heard more than a dozen cases on Tuesday, imposing fines and costs of almost £10,000.

A trip from Burnley in Lancashire to the Pystill Rhaeadr waterfall in Powys on 1 June cost a 37-year-old man £800.

And a 25-year old man from Birmingham was fined £660 and ordered to pay £85 in costs after visiting the beach in Aberystwyth in May.

People across the UK were told to stay at home as schools and businesses closed during the first lockdown announced in March.''

May and June ??? WTF is going on.

On the spot fines - no pay and impound the car and u can walk home.
Based on my limited knowledge, it would appear that these cases were deemed serious enough to warrant not to get Fixed Penalty Notices which tend to get turned around either on the spot by the police officer issuing a “ticket” or in bulk by the magistrates courts and issued via the post.

Those that don’t pay, fail the attitude test or as above would end up in court, several weeks later, and result in higher fines, costs and victim surcharges.
Victim surcharges? One visited a beach, the other a waterfall. Perhaps they went skinny dipping and scared the onlookers. :D

Every case that goes to court gets the victim surcharge slapped on, whether there has been a victim or otherwise.

My previous post has been vetted by daughter who works in courts and she reckons a good proportion will be non-payment followed by deemed too serious to be dealt with via a FPN.

E.g. off-roading which could put others in danger / tie up emergency services in event of accident.

Try a generous blob of grease in the cup, it creates enough suction that the pin stays in the cup not on the bike (same for the sleeve thing). Seems to work for me...
Tried that. Got complacent thinking it had worked and lost another. Thanks anyway
Tried removing the stuck adaptor with a pair of grips/pliers/etc before riding the bike? ;)
I think the problem is not noticing the adaptor has been left behind. It was when it happened to me...

While walking today,I watched a lady reprimanding a group of around a dozen folk all standing together talking. One of them said to her,"settle down love, you can't catch it outside".

Apparently 'less chance' now equates to 'can't'.

''Which bit BYP?

The Law itself?
The Police who have to enforce said law?
The courts who impose the fines etc?
The stupid people who believe they can pick and choose which law they will comply with and then whinge when they get found guilty and fined?''

The Law is the Law - might not like it but have to abide by it.
Police ? definatley. Pen Y Fan is a well known area and serviced by 1 main road - the A470. A couple of cars either side and road check everyone travelling in either direction. It's not rocket science to police it. But on their official SWP FB site they stated ''they can't be everywhere all the time'' but come on...It was the end of the week before they got there in force. Happened to pass the Liberty Stadium @ 2.45pm this afternoon - the Swans were at home and you wouldn't believe the number of police / PSO's / Dogs and it's all fenced off around the stadium. The missus asked if they were allowing fans in - but it was all because they've had people gathering to demonstrate against ''players taking the knee''. It' all kicks off with air horns / fireworks and chanting before the game starts. One wonders where the Police's priority's lie ?
If the courts are dealing with cases from March / April / June then what have they been doing all summer ?

And the Great British Public ? Perhaps once they go the top of Pen Y Fan they should of been sat down and watched tonight's episode of ''Casualty''. And then - when they got back down - do a 8 hour shift volunteering at the local hospitals - on cleaning duties.

And Trackday events and such like were cancelled last summer as such events were publicly shunned and held in negative light - not to cause additional pressure on the NHS ?

Was taking to my brother last night - lives in Auckland, New Zealand. COVID free - and 99 % back to normal. Mind u anyone arriving is still put in government quarantine for 14 days.

Least I've got all most of the materials for next weeks work - so happy days. Work ? ''essential repairs'', of course...

We'll just see how much of the ''Beast from the East'' gets this far West.

Trinity765 wrote: Sat Jan 02, 2021 10:49 am I'm fed up with buying Abba stand fitting kits. One of them gets stuck in the side of my bike and doesn't come out when I remove the stand. Twice now I've ridden off like it and lost it - at least, that's what I think is happening. If I'm wrong it means a gremlin is sneaking in my garage and taking it, along with my 10m sockets.
I've done that - luckily I found it on the drive when I came back from a ride. Stopped it happening again by gaffer taping the adaptor to the frame of the Abba stand. Also helps to prevent the adaptor scratching the lift point on the bike frame.

According to the daughter, dealing with the backlog created by:

Lockdown
Increase in crime
Scrotes deferring their hearings due to ‘isolating / having COVID’ etc
Video hearings
Staff illness / remote working
Etc

More serious crimes get quickly flushed through to Crown Court but the Magistrates still have a load on their plates...

Ok point taken.

So there's a backlog in the Judicial system - then just ticket the offenders. If you're caught sledging on Pen Y fan with the kids etc you know you're not supposed to be there - it's a big fine. Any aggro and the car goes to the pound. 14 days to settle up a la parking / speeding ticket. No need to involve the courts - Word would soon get around.

And the ''Speed Awareness Course'' is replaced by 5 x 8 hours shifts supporting the local NHS. At your own risk.

Apparently over 2 days 500 cars were counted and ''46'' fines issued. A ''lot'' more were given ''warnings ''.

Some deterrent..

When the big snow comes they'll all be back.

Out here they do the fine thing. You get three fines then a chance to stay in jail for a week or two!! Only actually during lockdown. Although there is the risk if caught breaking curfew as well. And the police municipale have threatened people I know for not wearing masks (they aren't that hot on it as the grockles still aren't bothering :angry-cussingblack: )

Maybe is a legislation thing. Out here I think the Gendarmes and the Police Municipale are set up to issue fines/take money on the spot for a LOT of things. Maybe the legislation hasn't been put into place clearly enough in the UK?

But it seems a bit stupid that 500 cars were counted and 46 fines issued

SWP say they can’t be everywhere. They won’t be at Pen-y-fan, it’s Dyfed Powys Police area. SWP finish in between the Llwyn onn/ Nant ddu area.

As for tickets, you know you can refuse to accept or choose to go to court? So if someone refuses to accept, you have no option but to summons, also, the persons involved may have been given a ticket, then listened to their mates/ family etc, who said to challenge it, opted to go to court. That can easily then take 6-12 months to set a court date, especially with the current court delays.

Warnings are given when the person fully complies with the officers request, the first option would be to ask the person why they’re there, no essential reason, explain why they shouldn’t be there and reques that they leave, they would probably then be given the warning. If they then got their arse in their hand and argued/ refused to compy, ticket.

It really isn’t a perfect system and the police are smack in the middle of it all..AGAIN. I don’t envy them having to deal with alledged COVID breaches every day, and i’m sure they’d rather not have to do it. But as i said before, people being people, like to pick and choose the laws that they think apply to them.

It’s all a real mess and the sooner it’s over the better (optimistically believing it will be over in 2021 ;) )

Gerwyn Price !.

Who ? You may ask..

I usually watch the world darts final as it's a bit of harmless fun. But this geezer is just so annoying. Can't place it but he makes me cringe.

I've turned it off and gonna watch a film :)

Chatting to my Mum yesterday, She told me about some of her friends who live in Whitby. Sitting on a bench near the beach, a Woman sat down fairly close to them, when they mentioned to her about social distancing etc etc. She said * I can't get Covid, I'm on holiday*. Yep, they walk among us. :x :o :wtf:

My missus when we get in her car when it's cold. I've explained to her, over the years, that many thousands of hours of R&D have been spent on the climate control systems, the placing of sensors, maximum efficiency, etc., yet every time we get in the car in winter she shoves the heating on max. I've explained that the inside won't get warmer any quicker and is is, in fact, simply blowing cold air around. Just set it to 23 and let it do its thing, it'll warm up quicker.
But no. Cold air blows until it warms up, then gets stifling and then unbearably hot. Then she turns it off. And then the interior cools down, then gets cold. At this point, we could set it to 23 and, again perhaps, just let it do its thing. But no. Onto max again, blowing hot air at hurricane speeds until it gets sauna hot. Then off again. Ad infinitum.

I'm sure she does it now just to annoy me.
