In Norfolk - for a break and not work, as usual.
Had lunch in Holt, now chilling with vino at the place we are staying in tonight.

Just for a change, wishing some french workers would actually work the "normal" short hours
They are fitting insulation under the chalet and it seems to involves a LOT of drilling - originally to access the other half of the underneath!! Which I thought they'd manage by now. But they are still drilling so I guess that they are drilling to secure the insulation
Even ear phones and high volume can't drown out the drilling
But hey - the place should be cooler in summer (??) and definitely warmer in winter!!!

On a beer break letting my eyes recover
Currently painting the rear wall of our villa here in sunny Lanzarote .
35 meters to do
The sun is so bright it's hard work even with a hat and Cat 4 sunglasses
It reflects off the white paint and hurts yer eyes.

Very bold visitor to the garden, given that there are 2 humans maybe 5m away.
Also, there was a bambi lurking in the shadows.

A young male roe deer strolled nonchalantly past the kitchen window, while I was stood at the sink, early evening a few days ago and spent an hour munching on some variegated ground cover plants. There is a tall, thick hedge between where it was and the road but it didn't seem phased by passing traffic. It also didn't appear to compute that humans were stood watching it on the other side of the window - some creatures can't get their heads around glass (blackbirds seem to though...if you so much as twitch they'll clock you and be off). Tried to get a pic but once it got in among the bushes it was nearly invisible.Rockburner wrote: Tue Jul 07, 2026 9:10 am IMG_20260707_090430_816.jpg

The missus now knows where all the hardy geranium flowers have gone in the back garden.

We think they bed down at the end of our garden, or in the corner of the field just beyond. They eat our roses!Count Steer wrote: Tue Jul 07, 2026 9:19 amA young male roe deer strolled nonchalantly past the kitchen window, while I was stood at the sink, early evening a few days ago and spent an hour munching on some variegated ground cover plants. Tracking Pen's flight from UK.
Was supposed to land here 10:00
Now delayed till 10:45
It's a small airport so we should be back home here 11:30
Time for a couple of cheeky beers

They're back and about 20/30 have been circling the area for last 2 or 3 days.Yorick wrote: Fri Aug 06, 2021 4:02 pm Watching about 20 swifts circling over the villa. Been here about am hour. I'm on the roof patio and it's a stunning scene.
A couple of weeks there were about 60 or 70 all circling and swooping.
Tried to film but they're too, erm, swift
Quite a treat as we didn't get many in Bradford![]()
Peaceful to watch
