Re: Box Sets, Mini series, films, etc.
Had the mother of all hangovers yesterday and monged out watching shite, really shite, films.
First up was, and to be clear i'm putting these hear to prevent you ever making the mistake of sitting down to watch them; Three Wishes with Patrick Swayze. If he wasn't dead I'd hunt him down and punch him in the face.
Stranded in Paradise. Made for Hallmark TV channel, which will now serve as a warning for anything else I see that belongs to them.
The Confirmation. The other films at least made this watchable. Clive Owen starred in this. I assume he must have had debts around this time...

Son of a Gun on prime. Thought out would be mindless crap but was actually a worthwhile watch. Of course, 1/2 bottle of JD May have helped!!
It’s got that McGregor bloke in it so that may sway your decision.

Only the Animals.
Netflix French movie with subs. Slow burner but intriguing with some quality twists.

Watched the last episode (to date) of Toast of London. Matt Berry is brilliant. If you haven't watched it, it's on Netflix.
He also wrote and starred in Year of the Rabbit which was good, if a little bizarre. Tried to find it on 4OD, but must have dropped off.

Tin Star
Just finished the third season - little bit comic book-esque but brilliantly overacted by Tim Roth.
First season still the best though.

Binged series 1, gave up at series 2 within the first few episodes. Maybe I should have stuck with it?

Season 2 was a bit disjointed tbh, 3 was better than 2, 1 was the best of all.

Here's one to avoid. AVA. What a pile of crap. Mindless violence, thin plot, absolute tosh despite starring John Malkovich and Geena Davis.

Been watching the 2005 box series of Bleak House. Pretty good but it could have been compressed down a bit? Oh and I watched Roadhouse for a grin last night.

I re-watched BOB over a weekend of boredom a few weeks ago.Harry wrote: ↑Thu Dec 31, 2020 1:46 pm I might binge watch Band of Brothers.
That set the bar for a mini-series in my book, the amount of work that went into authenticity and capturing the feeling has left a lot of other stuff seeming to be poorly done.
There is loads of opportunity to make authentic stuff and it doesn't need big budgets, that drama about Dennis Neilson was very well done, I dunno if it was entirely historically accurate but it seemed to capture it.
I used to very rarely watch the TV, but since our eldest moved over here she's turned me onto a lot of half decent TV stuff.
It's still amazing and has to be one of, if not the, best mini series ever. I think the characters are brilliant and you really relate to them. The stuff they went through, unbelievable.

Netflix's Death To 2020 is turning out to be quite amusing.
Its a satirical half documentary about...well... the events of 2020.

we're just getting to the end of Ozark, it's pretty good to be fair and has managed to not get too silly and unbelievable.
we're also watching Designated Survivor, again it's pretty good but....the fucking music is getting right on my wick, high suspense music all the frickin time and it gets exhausting. It's almost like they've used the music to cover over the lack of decent script writing
