Robot lawn mowers, anyone got one?

Post by Taipan »

We spoke about them briefly in the competition thread and I've now got the "I wants" for one. Clearly, they're shite for a mower when it comes to cutting long grass and weeds etc. The idea of them is more for maintaining a cut lawn. I have quite a few demands on my free time, so one would help me out a bit here. The plan would be to sell my 36v Makita but keep my petrol mower for longer grass etc.

You can spend a lot of money on one, but you don't have to. I think the one below would suit my needs well enough and its only £350! We have a robot vacuum cleaner but still supplement that with a hand held one as well, so even my wife thinks it makes sense and she doesn't like parting with money at the best of times. :D

Anyne got one, or am I the intrepid adventurer here?

A friend has a Bosch variation and he heartily endorses the idea.
It can't hurt to try one and if it doesn't work just fuck it in the loft.

I have a son powered one. He was out there this morning earning his right to drink my beer...

No idea what make it was, but a mate had one.

Looked like a WWI tank.

Plug it in, throw it in the pool. It worked out how big and what shape the pool was, then created a suitable pattern.

Cleaned off algae etc.
Even bland can be a type of character

We've had a Hayward Atlantis Plus for about 3 years now - very happy with it. Cleans the bottom, sides and water line.

I’ve had a lot of experience with them over the years at work with having demos and having one to use for a whole season.

At the moment there is a big push for them within the industry, we’re getting more demos than ever recently, this year in particular and they’re being pushed hard at conferences and turf shows.

I think we’ll end up with a few for cutting our paddocks, with the cost coming down for some of the larger units I believe they will be more appealing, what used to cost 15-20k is now around the 8k mark.

For example we cut our paddocks at the moment with 2 x Kubota BX2350’s fitted with the GCD600 grass collection and sweeping system and that combination new now would be in and around the 50-60k mark for both, a shit ton of money.

You can, yes, but ours is corded. You may prefer a battery one then.....
