The sociologist Terry Williams spent two decades visiting people who live in tunnels, hidden passageways and abandoned railroads, documenting their lives in the 2024 book Life Underground: Encounters with People Below the Streets of New York.

And New York isn’t the only place with a track record of people seeking refuge underground. Hundreds of people live in tunnels beneath Las Vegas, in passageways designed as storm drains to manage flash floods. Last year, Greater Good Charities, a non-profit, estimated that 1,500 people live in 600 miles of tunnels and culverts under the city.

Dozens of sports cars were towed from the Los Angeles River in the Cypress Park neighborhood on Sunday evening.

It's unclear exactly when the incident took place, but aerial footage from around 7:20 p.m. showed a large gathering of vehicles in the riverbed near San Fernando Road. Other vehicles were seen being driven from the riverbed in a single-file line, where some were loaded onto tow trucks.

Drivers who had gathered in the area told CBS LA that they were there for a car meetup, and that just over 100 vehicles were there when LAPD officers unexpectedly arrived to tell them they were trespassing.

"There's a trespassing sign that's really small, you can't read it," said Alexander Pimienta, one of the many drivers who were in attendance at the gathering. "We weren't doing anything illegal, we weren't doing anything stupid. ... They towed my motorcycle, they're towing trucks, they're towing over 50 cars."

Other video from the scene showed officers handing out what appeared to be citations or tickets, while some of the drivers were put in handcuffs. No arrests have yet been reported.

I’m sure we could construct understandable paragraphs and headings/titles when we were 15!!

I get you. I remember when I considered a flight to the Med as a long one.
I've done the 19 hour from Perth to Heathrow and to be honest I thought that was quite good , the point being that you're on the Plane and haven't got to get off in Asia or Arabia with all the kerfuffle involved. The fact though was I still had to get two flights to get to Perth !!!
The new one from Sydney I'll still have to get an hour plus hop to get there first, and could be my first choice cost depending.
