Your mobile phone is most likely a router with a sim card. It all depends on what you need, what's available and how much it costs.
A few years back I relied on a 3G connection for a while and it was enough but I had a good mobile signal and a cheap enough sim card. I'd be a touch annoyed to sign up to a 12 month contract and find out it's not suitable.

I've seen sim routers for £25 and Mozillion do 100GB uncapped sim for £13 monthly. No idea how much I use. Just firestick tv now and again and my tablet. Our phones could use there own data.

Update...

Connected up a TP link router with a mozillion 100gb uncapped sim and atm all working. That's 2 phones, 1 tablet, 1 ebook thing, blink cameras and my dodgy firestick and sky sports is working fine, atm.

Router was £40 and sim is £13 on a monthly and piggybacks EE. My talk talk broadband deal ends in a month, so we'll see how it goes. Still absolutely no idea how much data I will use but I can monitor in the app. If it keeps working I can always go unlimited on the sim. SFSG. 👍
