The $5 home made soda-blaster...& the $25 version.

Post by ZRX61 »

I've made an executive decision regarding soda blasting... I was looking at getting a pukka set up from Horrible Fright, which seems like over kill.. so:

For those with long memories (VD days) a link was posted to a blog by some chap that worked on VW's who came up with a $5 (at the time) doohicky. I made one, still have it somewhere. It worked great.
Basically the plastic hose goes in a box of soda & it syphons it up owing to airflow creating vacuum:

However, I just found a fairly cheap (5x as much...) alternative on Amazon which will be here later today (& is made by a company with the unfortunate name of Wogaboo :wtf: ):

While looking for a link to the original $5 soda blaster, I found instructions for a $5 sand blaster version:

The $25 version showed up... Pic above shows a 1m hose. However, the package stated 10ft...It was neither, it was 3ft & of such crap quality that it will betting upgraded/replaced with 4ft of the clear tube that has the nylon braids in it.
Pics on Amazon also showed it with 4 spare nozzles, it actually came with 5.

Will be picking up a 50lb bag of blasting soda from Horrible Fright & some of the new hose from Lowes, probably tomorrow.

Bought 10ft of hose, the other 6ft will be used to allow the ultrasonic to drain straight into a bucket. :)
