But arguably it's more for the actual tech than the XC side of things i'm thinking, but there's not a lot of tech over here to try it out on anyway. But there's certainly no downside to getting them fitted and giving them a days out there.

I also swapped my cranks back to the 52mm chainline... Which is slightly weird as the bike initially came with a 55mm chainline. I had the 52s on there by mistake for a while and due to lack of options to buy. But then a reasonable set of 55mm came up, so i bought them.

What i've found (and so has the boy on his) is that the largest cog on he rear is now a bloody awful chainline, so must so that the chain feels twisted in it and draggy, i doubt the reality is that, but it feels it for sure. Putting back to the 52mm gives it a nicer chainline in that gear, even though the cranks are close to the chainstay, they don't touch (i ran them for 8 months).

I think i'll like put his back to 52mm as well.
For some reason, known only to Shimano, when they went 12spd they decided to increase their offset by 3mm universally... Prior to 12spd Shimano, 52mm was "BOOST" chainline (and remains so for SRAM), 49mm was regular (ie. old school 142x12 and 135QR) chainline... SRAM have since moved everything 3mm further over with their T-Type setups, and introduced a 55mm chainline crank/chainring setup too, but the cassette sits 3mm closer to the dropout than it did with Eagle 12spd or it does with Shimano's 12spd...

Thus... Exactly as you've found... As long as it physically fits and doesn't interfere with anything when pedalling, when running Shimano, I and many others I know in the trade, recommend running 3mm less offset than Shimano recommends...

I'm still with the 52mm on mine and happy enough. I used the big cog a few times yesterday without issues. Well, apart from it being a big hill at the time.

Horse race on today up on the Down near Wantage. Didnt stay to watch as it wasn't on for 3 hours. So just pedalled along instead.

Was tough mentally today as I'd set the ride as a proper chill kind of riding day. But I got overtaken, so really struggled not to push and chase after them. But I've got a busy week of rides planned and didn't want to miss the sunny day buy can't kill my legs before I even start 🙃

FoD today as i had to drop the boy over for him running a coaching session.

Practicing lap after lap on Twisted Sister, trying to not brake at all apart from 1 corner which is almost a dead stop so have to. But most of them, i'm getting there... I was clearing a gap i've been after getting right for ages.

How much of it was the bars and how much was just me, i dunno. But the bars feel good that's for sure. Just waiting for my own set to arrive and i'll throw these back on the boys bike for Thurs as he's out doing timed runs.

So my bars arrived at Rotec and @crust went and collected for me.

Only thing was, due to a mistake they were 31.8 instead of 35 dia. I was OK with that as I wanted to try 31.8 anyway.
Rotec robbed a 45mm stem off his GF bike and away I went.

Firstly, I love the 65mm bars rise, I got a 2nd overall on one segment, which I'll beat later next week. But I couldn't see any downsides to them at all.

It's been an interesting week or two but funnily, nothing has actually changed any more. There were incoming bikes, outgoing bikes (mine) and new plans and options. But after all that and some decisions made by both me and the boy, the bikes are essentially the same as we started (He's got a new shock due in this weekend for his though). I've had 4 days off the bike but they've been hard driving, walking, standing days so i've not actually done any recovery as such. So today i'll be getting the bike out for some pedal fun for sure.

Cwmcarn today and its as tough as i remember. Not sure if its just the hills or the rocks messing with momentum but its a tough place to ride.

The big Fuel is still hanging in there, maybe more so than ever despite my musing on other bikes.

I wanted to try the boys Vivid as he didn't quite gell with it the other day, but we have some thoughts on why that may be.

It felt BRILLIANT at 250psi for me, which was arguably a little on the over stiff side at 22% sag, i reckon i can go 230 maybe. But weirdly he was struggling with blowing through the travel at only 220psi... but it's a bouncy bugger that's for sure. I could remove 2 volume spacers potentially as we added 2 for testing taking it from 2-4.

I ended the ride with 2 KOMs on Strava which i've been hunting for a while, so was quite pleased to knock 3s off my best time and claim it outright... with the only downside being that i've now told my lad where it is, so it'll get taken from me before we move away from the area lol.

But with the DMR 65mm riser bars and the Vivid, i think i'm pretty damn happy.

Enjoyable day out at FoD today with @crust after a slightly challenging start with mechanic issues from him.
Got it resolved and got out for a play. 65 bars felt ace and my riding was good.

Ended up at the new local, Littledean Tap Room. The only downside being its not really a nice or simple ride back home for us. But it'll still get a few more visits im sure.

Pearce uplift death day tomorrow 😃

Littledean you new local?
Have house plans changed because that's not remotely close to where I thought you were going to?

Well, as far as local breweries go, its as close as we get.

There's the Lydney one to try next.

Plan still exactly same house once solicitors get it all signed and sealed

Well i didn't really enjoy today's riding. In simple terms, it was hard. Steep, tech and greasy type hard. I only did 2 runs and called it before I stacked it.

I need to improve before going again. But how, I dunno.

Ordered some new brakes for the bike today. Won't be in stock for a couple of weeks but as we're mostly away that's all OK for me.

It won't come as much of a shock to know i went for a set of Maven. Only the Base for me which is slightly smaller pistons, but thought i'd give them a whirl, i could if i want even fit a pair of fully adjustable Silver levers onto them that i've got in the spares box. But i rekon they'll do the job. I'm just finding the DB8 slightly weak in places at times, i threw a new set of Galfer pads in there which made them a bit better, but still not exactly mind blowing.
I was tempted by a set of Saints, but thought i'd stick with what i know and like from riding his bikes.

Slightly changed the plans and the Maven arrive today. It cost me £10 more but that's OK as the boy has an Enduro race in 10 days time so i wanted them on the spare bike (mine) for that.

God damn it's still windy so so much of the time out there... a nice ride taking in a couple of rarely ridden routes but at times the headwind is soul destroying lol. Especially one section which was the draggiest terrain i've ridden and straight into the headwind !
Still rocking the lower rise bars currently as i've not seen my mate to get the high ones back from him.

Well that was somewhat unexpected. After a few daft offers of £1000 and £1200 it's now sold for £1500 + postage. The postage insured is £80 but he's covered that so it's now boxed up and ready for collection tomorrow.

It's been an ace thing, but it's time is up, so it's gone.
