Not cheap but quality.

And you're right, had to remember to unplug them before taking my lid off - but once I'd ripped them out of my ears a few times I didn't forget. I've left the OE speakers in the helmet ( Shoei J Cruise ) for short trips.

To be honest we're probably not using Packtalks to their fullest potential, a lot just use them as a intercom / telephone and that's it. Mines linked to my phone as well - for calls ( which are well spooky - when this missus ring u and asks where are u ? on the outside lane of the motorway dearest.. ) and paired for music. Lucky to have USB ports on the Harley so phone stays charged up. I think I've lost the radio as I read somewhere one of the Speaker leads acts as an radio aerial.
What is good tho - and it works if you're out of range and say miss a motorway junction - u can dial up one mobile '' emergency '' number automatically and then u can find out where everyone else is via the phone network. Very handy on German Autobahns...

Infinity have a sale on so I ordered a Cardo Packtalk Slim Duo last night for me and IanB. £408. Usually you pay around £235-£250 for a solo so quite please with that.
Will report back once I've tried it. I'll be using it in my Shoei Neotec for starters but the same fitting will work in the HJC Carbon I've got my eye on :)

for the last 5 years or so I've been using a G9 and a pair of Shure SE215 earbuds on my daily commute, the Shure's are noise cancelling and you'll see them used by musicians and sports commentators in loud stadiums etc. The foam does the same job as any other ear plug and the sound quality is good enough that I have the volume turned right down to min on the G9 unit.

The Shure's did take me a little while to get used to so that I didn't knock them out when pulling my helmet on, and very occasionally they'll sit at a position that is slightly uncomfortable but on the whole they work really well for me

My commute is 45 mins each way mostly at motorway speeds so wind noise is an issue.
