Re: Scott Mills and 'the celebrity factor' WTF
"It's the BBC's fault" is just wishful thinking isn't it? As said, this isn't just a media thing, this issue is just as prevalent in other areas where notoriety, status & power has and continues to allow protection from within. For example, Russell Brands career covered MTV, Channel4, BBC, Hollywood and numerous nondescript production companies. They're all guilty of aiding and abetting him in return for ratings.

The alleged offences also happened in the 90s so he was nowhere near 50 at the time.gremlin wrote: Tue Mar 31, 2026 2:31 pmYou're assuming the alleged offence happened. Clearly the CPS found there was insufficient evidence that it did. I'd call that a pretty good defence.weeksy wrote: Tue Mar 31, 2026 2:27 pm
well the latest BBC says the person was under 16.... there's arguably very little defence for that... (unless you're also under 16) as Mills is nearer 50, he's got very little going for him.
For various reasons people make false allegations, I'd have thought the police would have learned from their previous mistakes and not joined in the gossiping.

I guess these things are very difficult to prove. One mans word against one boys. Witnesses unavailable.

One man's word against another man, he waited nearly twenty years before saying something about the well paid celeb.Dodgy69 wrote: Tue Mar 31, 2026 3:54 pm I guess these things are very difficult to prove. One mans word against one boys. Witnesses unavailable.
We only have the police version of the story, they may have encouraged a false allegation.

Re: Scott Mills and 'the celebrity factor' WTF
Few folk on here were busy defending Mohamed Al Fayed (sp?) a while ago when there were allegations about him sexually assaulting staff. Last week on radio 4 they mentioned the number of people who claimed he assaulted them was up at about 170.
If I remember right the ones on here were using the old they're after money and he can't defend himself now he's dead lines. Despite the fact that several of the women made police reports yonks ago.
Oh and this popped up on my Youtube feed the other day, its just a short so doesn't take long to watch and its about the "What was she wearing" line that gets trotted out about rape victims asking for it.
Seriously, watch it through to the end and if youve ever said that it might just stop you ever using that shitty line again.
Oh and DJ in sexual predator shocker. Err...

No me neither, I've never seen a rich muslim man get defended on this forum or the two before
Re: Scott Mills and 'the celebrity factor' WTF
The why is because of weakness on both sides.weeksy wrote: Tue Mar 31, 2026 8:04 am
But how/why does all this come about ? As soon as people get famous they turn into predators who prey on younger/inappropriate ? Or am i missing something here...
It seems utterly bizarre.
The "why now" question is interesting, there is definitely a trend of people coming forward many years later to accuse wealthy people of something that they'd somehow managed to live with for many years, but as soon as the person they're accusing has some money in their bank it suddenly becomes really important to get justice.
Having said that, I believe most stories of abuse because I've seen how easy it is, fame/power/money has a massively dramatic effect on people, it can make people fall to their knees at the snap of fingers. I think it's fame/power and then money in the hierarchy of intoxication of the masses.
I also find it abusive from the opposite side of the fence most people wouldn't think of, I'm genuinely sick of pulling up somewhere nice in a nice car and having young women approach me, I've had it happen in front of my wife. However you look at it, it's abusive, I don't want to be pestered by women looking for a sugar daddy, my social media accounts (including LinkedIn now) have to be locked down because I'll get gold diggers bombarding me.
A few weeks ago for example, me and my wife pulled up at a supercar event and right in front of my wife a (I think Russian) mid-20's woman came over and said it was her favourite ever car and would I take her for a spin up the road and then somewhere for "drinks". I stood there speechless that she'd do it that blatantly in front of my wife and my wife just loudly said "Go away". I've got dozens of stories like that and so have most men in my position.
It's been a point of conversation at track events or supercar events and everyone has the same stories.
I've also had women coming for interviews who made it clear that if I gave them the job they'd be willing to do "anything".
I find it genuinely very distasteful although I'm sure that until it keeps happening to you most men would probably just make jokes about it and say I'm lucky. But being bombarded by people constantly when you're not into it is no fun at all, especially when you know they just want to use you.
And I certainly don't condone it but some people are weak and if they're constantly offered something on a plate then they'll take it. That doesn't mean they shouldn't be held to account if one of them is underage or vulnerable, but it should be considered and highlighted so measures can be put in place in the future.
Fame, power and money drags up lots of emotions in some people, some of them will get envious, some will want to manipulate, some of them will harbour hate or resentment, some will do worse. And of course the weak and unscrupulous will take advantage of their position.
It's human weakness.

What, the gorgeous birds aren't put off by your gaudy Italian loafers?
Re: Scott Mills and 'the celebrity factor' WTF
See, you can joke but I bet if you were some woman (or a man) on the end of constant unwanted sexual harassment then you'll soon tire of it.DefTrap wrote: Wed Apr 01, 2026 8:19 am What, the gorgeous birds aren't put off by your gaudy Italian loafers?
And in some places it's normalised, I probably see more of it out here than you'd see in a lot of places but I'm also so glad I don't live in somewhere like Thailand and have to see grubby old men with young girls (and boys) constantly.
In the UK at the very least it should be called out by their peers, everyone who knew about people like Mills and Schofield should be charged with abuse along with them, for doing nothing about it.

Sorry, I assumed your response was an April Fools wind-up.
The "it's the same for men" angle just doesn't translate - yes it would be tiresome & laughable, but hardly comparable because to be a successful abuser you have to hold some sort of power.

So men can’t be sexually abused?DefTrap wrote: Wed Apr 01, 2026 4:25 pmSorry, I assumed your response was an April Fools wind-up.

So its claimed the BBC were aware of Mill's investigation, yet took him on anyway! If the investigation wasn't against their vetting policy then, why is it now? No wonder there is more anger aimed at them than Mills!

Doesn't require a fat bank balance or a nice car in the US if you have a British accent. Pretty sure I could read a shopping list to some of them & make their knickers evaporate.IccyV2 wrote: Wed Apr 01, 2026 6:07 am I also find it abusive from the opposite side of the fence most people wouldn't think of, I'm genuinely sick of pulling up somewhere nice in a nice car and having young women approach me, I've had it happen in front of my wife. There’s bound to be a variety of characters and motives among the fuggin buggin targets of his advances, but he was a very obvious sleazy little bastard.demographic wrote: Wed Apr 01, 2026 10:00 pmOld age gets to everyones memory eventually eh?

Re: Scott Mills and 'the celebrity factor' WTF
I'm sure there's examples of sexual abuse on men.
In minute proportion to the other way round though. And your example was spectacularly trivial, hence why I assumed it was April fools humblebrag nonsense.
