Oasis cafe in Abergavenny on a Sunday. I didn't get the memo.

Crossing the old Severn Bridge was interesting. Managed to keep the bike on a line but couldn't move my head. It was a cold and miserable ride to be honest but the bike was fun and I stayed warm and dry on the inside.

I am staying in Wales near the border and went for a blat to Tesco in Llandrindod this morning. This afternoon my host took me for a walk to see the monkey puzzle trees.

Headed to Machynlleth yesterday to drop in on Caroline, Nick Sanders' better half for lunch.

The the main routes between here and there are very Hornet SP friendly, A44, A483, A470, A489. The B4518, a well known biker road with a popular photo spot at it's peak, was closed and the local rumour is that it will never open again. I don't know why.

I caught Nick just as he was leaving for Marocco and stopped at Crossgates Cafe for snackage and wondered if I have the filthiest SP in the world.

That road was closed when I got there the other week, the lower road running along side the reservoir is nice anyway. Brings you back up just after closure, as you now know. Cracking roads around there.

I enjoyed his series on YT last year,he rode a Enfield Bear around most of the EU coastline,I forget the mileage but it was a long way & a good promotion for modern RE bikes.
We're planning a trip back to mid Wales this year,we like the 'Mountain road' from the 'Two hoots 'cafe to Rhayader.

Very true.

If you are heading to Mach from the south that road cuts off a big corner so it's a tad inconvenient, but ho hum. Probably a good reason for it to be closed.

I think Two hoots is closed now, if so, you've got the Woodlands cafe just over the bridge about 200 yards on rhs.

Home. Below is the only other photo I took. I'm pretty rubbish at travel blogging, hey?

My trip was marred a little by my Airbnb accommodation. I stayed in a converted barn on the property of a lovely, older gentleman who had an obsession with his electric bill. The barn had been converted in the 90s and didn't have double glazing or decent insulation and was heated solely by electric and only downstairs. The proprietor had a habit of popping in to see me and turning down the heating or turning it off completely if he didn't think I needed it. Night time temperatures dropped to just above zero and I was, to say the least, freezing and had trouble sleeping.

Wednesday I took a run out to Aberystwyth, it was dry but chilly. I went around the dams of the Elan Valley to Devils Bridge and then along the B4120 which I prefer to the A44 on the other side of the valley. I came back the same way.

Thursday I packed up and trudged across the midlands to see friends in Lincolnshire and enjoyed their well insulated house, central heating and I finally warmed up. We went for a walk around Newark on Friday.

Yesterday I got home before the worst of storm Dave. A1/M1 to Cambridge, wigglywoo to Haverhill and Braintree, A131 to Chelmsford and then jumped on M25. Dry run, quite breezy but the Dartford crossing was surprisingly calm and only a little bit of filtering.

I have fallen in love with the Hornet SP and think it's a great allrounder. It chugs nicely around in traffic and roars raucously in the nationals. It's well balanced, feels light, the brakes and suspension play nicely together and I find very comfortable. I will be adjusting the chain, checking the oil and giving it a good clean before getting out on it next weekend. Looking forward to it.

The houses in the carpark background there were where I stayed each year when I did the Goodwood FOS with my lad.

And I've spent many a day on most of those roads when out teaching policey people how to drive/ ride.

How was the seat in the Hornet, on my CB1000R I find it okay for a couple of hours, then it gets uncomfortable, though I suspect you weigh less than my 14 stone.

I find it ok. I do indeed weigh considerably less than 14 stone and I my fat is distributed more conveniently for motorcycle riding.

While we're on the subject of weight, I may need to adjust the suspension accordingly. It rode much better with my luggage on it.
