This tach issue is intermittent all the time (eh?). I need to get the tank & fairing off this thing for a poke about. There was a moment yesterday where it decided to idle at about 3500rpm as I slowed for a red light, so that's a new issue... altho tbf, I had just been faffing about with the idle adjuster moments earlier.

Tuesday:
Started to remove the tank & had the back propped up to disconnect gubbins, spotted some holes drilled in the top of the airbox which I don't recall my A1 or A3 having. Taped them shut & went for a ride.
Bike was running better, then I switched to Reserve & it got a lot better.

Switched back to *On* & it started acting up again. Ah HA!

Gonna drain tank & pull the fuel tap for some IRAN

ok, time to stop fucking about & get the bike properly sorted....
The anti-dive units are both leaking & now the bike is cutting out a lot, fuel pump is suspected.

Time to start shopping for front end parts & a fuel pump. (apparently a VW Bosch pump is the go-to)

Anti-dive units aren't leaking, it was residual brake fluid from the recent brake work. Cleaned that up. One less issue...

Tank drained & removed for a poke about/IRAN... Kinda clean under there for being 43 years old... Now it's too fucking hot to do anything else in the garage today, altho I drained/pulled the tank outside in the sun..

Went back out to the garage for another 20 minutes
Sorted that crossed HT lead deal on the #2-3 coil (middle pic above). Swapped out the half assed terminals on the battery tender leads for ones that actually fit the M6 bolts on the battery posts. Added wire wrap to tidy things up & shrink wrap on the new wire terminals
Took a look at the new (less than 200 miles) fuel filter, no clag/snarge evident. Also: fuel flowed fine when draining tank with the tap on either position.
Oil/filter change up next (tomorrow... maybe)

Oil change is progressing slowly, all I've done so far is put a drip tray near the bike (3 days ago). Might manage to put the bike on the mainstand today... No progress at all Thur/Fri as it was 101deg.

Progress!

Two of the half-assed wrong size terminals I replaced. They were on the wires attached to the battery posts for the battery tender.

Removed the drain plug & dropped most of the (really stinky) oil into the pan, still have to pull the filter... (may even manage that today) I have a sneaking suspicion that the washer, cup and/or spring may be AWOL. Luckily I have spares.

More progress!!
Dropped the filter. Cup, spring & a washer all present.. however, it was the wrong washer (right), I have the correct washer (left). I even remembered to wrap tin foil around the right side headers so they didn't get coated in oil when I loosened the filter plate (not an issue on the ZRX11 or ZX11). Put the drain plug back in the sump.
Filter plate was jet black with snarge, so the bike will likely get another oil & filter change after 1000-1200 miles

Will also remove the worthless smog system crap* while I have the tank off, need to swing by APE out by Willow Springs to get their spiffy block off plates.

Oil filter assembly er, assembled & installed back on the bike, added oil, but can't run the bike yet to fill the filter.

Octopus is now off the bike...

Capped the vacuum line that went to the #2 intake (the skinny tube on the octopus) & capped the #1 cylinder spigot with a proper vacuum cap instead of the half-assed piece of tube with a screw stuck in the end of it. (#3 & #4 vacuum spigots T into the fuel pressure regulator).

Snookered...
Called APE, they're out of the block off plates but doing another run in about three weeks. I'll temporarily use the long tube from the octopus to connect to two doodads on the cam cover to each other. It just needs to keep the dust out as there are one way reed valves in the cover that only allows flow in one direction.

Do I have the right size for the airbox connector? No, I bloody do not... I need one between the two larger sizes. Arse biscuits & buggery bollocks...

But did manage to stuff one of the smaller ones inside the connector on the airbox, so all good for now.

I bought a couple of PAIRS blanking plates about 5 years ago and still haven't fitted them. I stuffed a marble down the tube to the airbox before the dyno run and there it has remained.

The main advantage to removing this useless crap is it gives more room to mess with stuff under the tank. It doesn't affect performance one way or the other. I've got at least 12 complete sets in a box.

More faffery: Got the return line from the fuel pressure regulator installed on the right side of the tank, snaked the sender unit drip line back into place & had a look at the (K&N) air filter. I detest those fucking things.
...at which point the sweat was blinding me so I gave up for the day.
Hopefully will manage to get the actual fuel line attached to the fuel tap tomorrow if it's not too goddamn hot by the time I get back from the Fang Farrier. Then refill the tank & go for a bimble.
