Anyone toured around Cochem / Eifel part of Germany?

Post by Mr Moofo »

Despite having lived there, and got lost on a few occassions, my knowledge is not what it should be. I have proposed this for a group I do a trip with - it's either here, or the Black Forest. And for the 5/6 days we will be away, the BF is a long way to go!

Looking at Bitburg potentially or Cochem as a Air BandB base.

Any tips?

They don't let bikes on normal TF sessions anymore if you are thinking of a trip to the 'Ring.

The roads are as good if not better than the Ring itself, quieter and just as much fun. I can't say on any of our days our we got bored for a single second despite multiple trips.

Cochem itself is a lovely little place

Probably not - I can remeber talking with Brendan (Sliders), and he advised not doing the 'Ring on a bike, as it was way too dangerous.
I know that he gave riding it on bikes, and was later killed there is a car

The same is to just go and play of some interesting roads, drink beer, and eat some pig ...

I hated every second of it on my 950SMR and wasn't anything to do with the bike, was just a blind corner all the time and lots of erratic traffic

Never really toured in that area, but have been through it several times en route to the Black Forest and the Alps, etc. As I recall it is fairly quiet and some cracking roads.

I know the Alps well, and have been to the Black Forest several times when living down there - our trips away detend to be 6 days max, which makes the 8 housr hack down form Calais and then back a bit of a chore.
But it does have fantastic roads, and lashings of pig. And cuckoo clocks

I know! I have one on my lounge wall, and in the event we fail to silence it before going to bed I get despatched to shut the bastard in it's coop. I hasten to add that it was the wife who wanted it, bloody thing cost a fortune!

I did Cochem / Black Forest many years ago. See to recall it was a picturesque part of Germany. seem to remember the B500 as a good road. Cochem as a noce town, but a bit quiet in the evenings .. But I do remember I prefer the Spanish Pyrenees for riding...

Thanks all, forget the advice. Two of the party have said they would rather ride around Norfolk, Lincs and Derbyshire …
So bollocks to them !
