Two men (likely stonemasons) working on London’s St Pancras railway station clocktower take a smoke break, enjoying a spectacular view overlooking Kings Cross Junction in the process. View from St. Pancras Clock Tower, looking over Euston Road, to Pentonville Road & Grays Inn Road, London, circa 1930

My great grandfather was a stonemason who worked on Lincoln Cathedral. A head for heights is obviously not hereditary, I shit myself above 6 feet

Re: utterly random picture thread.
This cycle/ski rack has been at the bus station for a few seasons. I think this sticker to explain how to use it is new!
I know I've said this before, but I worry about humans - how does anyone not know to store skis in a rack vertically and put a cycle in front wheel first as pictured?? FFS !!!

I looked at the first picture, without seeing the stickers, and thought "How do you use that then?"Noggin wrote: Tue Mar 03, 2026 5:58 pm This cycle/ski rack has been at the bus station for a few seasons. I think this sticker to explain how to use it is new!

Re: utterly random picture thread.
Photographs show the moment a drunk driving instructor crashed his car into a ditch on the way to a lesson.
Timothy Howells was onthe way to his first lesson of the day with the RED Driving School when his car smashed off the road - but he was already four times over the limit.
Passing motorists saw Howells in the ditch — and he was filmed as he peered out of the open driver's side window. In a video shared online, one driver shouts to Howells: "Plenty to drink last night or what? You can't park there mate."
But Howells' eight-week custodial sentence for drink driving was this week suspended for 18 months at Llanelli Magistrates' Court. He was, though, banned from driving for 30 months after admitting the charge.
In interview after his arrest on Friday February 20, Howells admitted that when he was arrested by officers, he was on his way to collect a pupil for a driving lesson. The court heard Dyfed-Powys Police received a report of a single-vehicle collision on the A484 between Pembrey to Kidwelly, Carmarthenshire, where a car was found in a roadside ditch.

Ah but - if you approached whilst carrying skis, I can't imagine you'd have put the skis horizontally ???McNab wrote: Wed Mar 04, 2026 8:13 amI looked at the first picture, without seeing the stickers, and thought "How do you use that then?"Noggin wrote: Tue Mar 03, 2026 5:58 pm This cycle/ski rack has been at the bus station for a few seasons. Is there anything to indicate that it's storage for both? Otherwise, it's a random sculpture.

It's by both the tourist office and the bus stop. Honestly, if you're carrying skis, then there is only one way to store them in that (and people do know what it's for!!!)Horse wrote: Wed Mar 04, 2026 4:43 pm Is there anything to indicate that it's storage for both? Cycles? Not sure why anyone would need to put one in there at the moment!! In the summer, I suppose so as a few people put downhill bikes on the bus to get to different parts of the resort, so, maybe the sticker is there to cover both seasons!!

A stiff drink or two before sitting beside a new driver is pretty understandable. Maybe the new driver was really scary.Horse wrote: Wed Mar 04, 2026 2:34 pm Photographs show the moment a drunk driving instructor crashed his car into a ditch on the way to a lesson.

Ever seen the very first documentary about Fred Dibnah? He went to the pub for lunch.Skub wrote: Wed Mar 04, 2026 5:25 pm

And did you see the second documentary? You'll have to imagine the accent of him saying "A few people wrote in about me having a couple of pints. They ought to try doing this job sober!"

Re: utterly random picture thread.
I think this bunch qualify as 'random'
Some of you may recognise a few, some may recognise themselves...but not so many now as it was a few years ago. I can name a few but interested to see if anyone else can.

The plural of 'anecdote' is not 'data'.
