Pizza for the freezer
I'm thinking of making some pizza to put in the freezer but a sensible size for one person! No one "NEEDS" a whole Dr Oetker pizza of an evening, but also, I could make them the right size for my air fryer so I don't have to turn the big electric over on!!
Soooo - if I make the bases, should I freeze the base pre adding topping?
It seems sensible because then the base would be more solid to manage when adding toppings to refreeze
Does that make sense?

I vote yes. Freeze the bases, use as needed and vary the fresh toppings depending on what you have/want.

What about - freeze the bases; take out and add toppings and then put back to freeze the toppingsgremlin wrote: Fri Feb 20, 2026 11:51 am I vote yes. Freeze the bases, use as needed and vary the fresh toppings depending on what you have/want.
That would be the ideal because then I just have to chuck it in the air fryer!!

I might consider adding a smear of tomato splodge to the pizza bases before freezing but anything involving cheese, olives, anchovies etc etc, nope.

It'd be ham, pineapple and cheeseCount Steer wrote: Fri Feb 20, 2026 1:33 pmgremlin wrote: Fri Feb 20, 2026 12:53 pmYou are Dr. Oetker and I claim my Soapy tenner!Noggin wrote: Fri Feb 20, 2026 11:58 am

Re: Pizza for the freezer
That's not a bad idea at all. I make enough pizza dough (around 1.3 kg) in a batch which is enough for 5 large (14-15 inch) thin pizza bases. If I make the same amount but divide it up into smaller portions and shape those portions so they fit snugly in the air fryer I should get at least 10 pizza bases out of the same amount of dough. As Count Steer sez, apply some tomato topping before freezing, then when it's time to cook, add the toppings and incinerate in the air fryer.

Re: Pizza for the freezer
My vote would be to partially bake as marinara pizzas, I.e. base plus tomato, pecorino etc then defrost and add toppings before finishing off.
Peddling Pizza on the ‘gram and YouTube, fully makes and partially bakes for larger events but he has got 500°C of oven to finish off, but there is no reason why a cooled and adequately wrapped pre-cooked base couldn’t be frozen. Thousands of Neapolitan purists are already furious at the thought
Personally, I’d either make a marinara and freeze or just make the dough, freeze, defrost, prove then bake but then again I’ve got a pizza oven or two to play with…

We need a poll. I'm on the 'with pineapple' side of the argument...

Re: Pizza for the freezer
It always amazes me how much stick I get for liking pineapple on pizza!!
Everything from "that's disgusting", "the Italians would have a fit if you asked them to put pineapple on a pizza" to "don't put fruit on savoury pizza"
Up here pizzas range from curry, tartiflette on pizza (WTAF!!), random flavours with an egg in the centre and some just utterly bizarre options! And yet, no one criticises that!! Do the Italians put chicken curry on pizza ??
Anyway, my general responses to the above comments are -
Well I wouldn't eat your pizza either but I'm not shouting about your choice
I probably wouldn't ask an italian to put pineapple on pizza (I never ask, only order it if it's an option on the menu!!)
And - FFS, so is tomato a fruit, but guess what, everyone puts that on pizza
Each to them's own! I think sprouts and olives are disgusting, but I'd never ever belittle someone for choosing to eat them

Re: Pizza for the freezer
Who cares, chicken curry is a food of the gods, and yes I've put it on pizza, if I didn't already have a load of spicy pepperoni kicking about I might be tempted to try it again tonight.
Folk are free to put whatever they want on their own pizza, it's their pizza, they're eating it, what you get up to in the privacy of your own home is nobodies business but your own, but pineapple............................

Re: Pizza for the freezer
To be fair, for me, it's not about the pizza, pineapple is just wrong, it should be packaged up with broccoli, sprouts, cabbage, fish, chickpeas etc etc and wiped from the face of the earth.

LOL. That makes perfect sense, and I agree on a couple of your shorter list!!MrLongbeard wrote: Mon Feb 23, 2026 11:35 am To be fair, for me, it's not about the pizza, pineapple is just wrong, it should be packaged up with broccoli, sprouts, cabbage, fish, chickpeas etc etc and wiped from the face of the earth.
I do actually like pineapple however it arrives!! Battered, pizza, fresh, in alcohol etc etc etc !!!
Just always makes me laugh when people give me shit about having pineapple on a pizza and then I see what they ordered

Re: Pizza for the freezer
Having seen the toppings offerings on crêpes in ski resorts, none of the offerings on pizza bases would be a surprise.Noggin wrote: Mon Feb 23, 2026 11:06 amIt always amazes me how much stick I get for liking pineapple on pizza!!
