Found out there is a resistor between the heat sensor in the head and the computer, it's hidden in the loom under the seat.
Found that, opened up that odd part of the loom as it dead ends (it's next to the main loom)

Wire in that bit doubles back on itself... (pic from another Gpz11)

Metered everything & it all checks out... today... Yesterday it didn't (between the sensor & the brain). Bike hasn't moved. So at this point I guess I'm living with it.. unless I touched/moved something & ended the issue (which seems to be about 95% of the electrical issues I *fix*). Next ride will tell. It doesn't affect the way the bike runs when the idiot lights come on.

It's been about 40 years...
So '83 GPz11 tank off:
Disconnect fuel line.
Disconnect return line on the other side of the tank. (Is fuel going to piss out everywhere?)
Remove bolt at the back of the tank.
Prop rear of tank up on a piece of 2x4.
Reach under & disconnect electrical doodad.
Pull tank off.
Am I missing anything?

Yup, left side. Same as the GPz750 Turbo. At some point the bike has fallen over to the left & scratched up the original. Old one will likely become a coaster depending on how easy it comes off.
It's not actually a sticker as it's 1mm aluminum, pre-curved to fit the alternator cover.

Just around the corner from me.

It's a friend selling that. He's offloading a couple of them, but nothing is selling in these endless, raining, sun free months.

Took the GPz11 out to gas it up. I added about 5oz of Rislone 2:1 Tiger Piss to the tank yesterday & needed to get that stuff through the system. They claim it might take 100 miles to notice a difference/improvement, but it's running better today anyway.
Throttle isn't acting like an on/off switch at low speed now.

Jumped on the freeway to blow the cobwebs out after topping off the tank, but got off after a mile as it was almost gridlock for some reason.

Also: headlight warning idiot light isn't lit. I think some water got into stuff when the bike was delivered during the monsoon we had on Dec 24th & it finally dried out after seven weeks of living in the desert.

So the bike is all ready for hitting the RockStore tomorrow... but it's going to be pissing down in that area according to the latest from the weather guessers. Bugger...
Altho it will be CAVU/Severe Clear up here in the desert. May wring it out along the SA fault line which is a stupid fast road with some kinks posted for 35mph but I think they meant 120mph.

Notice on the original that the brushed finished matches the angle of the logo... on the new one not so much.

& yes it's on straight, camera was at an angle is all.

Looks much better when you can't see the brushed finish... Just need to find some gloss black to hide blemishes on the covers.

It's a styling deal. They're rubber plugs stuck in a row of holes. Kawasaki are VERY proud of those rubber plugs, they're $10 each. They just push in.

There's some real tasty GPz11's out there...

Took it out for a local ride. Back to square one on the running issues. Tach is still reading double or triple the actual RPM intermittently.
Got a list of things to check, but going to start with fucking about with the TPS

Swapped out the fuel filter today & took it for a ride. Gave it the berries coming onto the freeway as two Harleys thundered past in the #1 lane. Wound it out to 120 & they were still slightly pulling away from me. Decided not to push matters as they were flying the red & white.
Running better, tach still acting crazy. Managed to figure out the stumble is at exactly 4000rpm & it's definitely fuel starvation related not lack of sparks.
Fuel filter isn't filling all the way up, so next deal is drain the tank & take a look at the filter in there. Tank has been lined at some point, but it's nickel or zinc plated in there, not some chemical goop.

40k RPM, I'm not surprised she's getting fuel starvation

On a more serious note, that gives you something to aim for that the issue is the same rpm all the time. Totally different I'm sure, but my fuel tap diaphragm split in the Firestorm always gave issues at the same RPM, presumably just the right pressure for it to fail. Luckily my mate checked that before he started messing about with anything more involved that a fuel tap.

Valid point, I should have run it on reserve & see if that made a difference.

Of course the frigging tank is full of gas so need to drain about 5 gallons...
