I'm with talk talk paying just shy of £30 a month. From April it goes up to 34 and the following April 38. Now, there's only me and mrs D, we have a phone each, tablet and firestick for dodgy TV, that's it.

Don't think we need super dooper speeds or anything so would any of the cheap deals do. Says no engineer required, they just send to router out and plug n play.

Anything to look out for and any recommendations. ??

With most of the traditional broadband suppliers, their business model has gone a bit tits up in terms of pricing, I read, becaue EE broadband / fibre is offering such a good service.

I have Virgin fibre - after 12 months at 43 GBP, they put it up to 64 GBP a month. The usual phone call to them saw it slowly fall back - 55 to 45 to 38 etc. Oddly, their new offer came in with "if we can change from 300 MBPS to 500 MBPS, we can do that at 28 GBP". So that is what I went for - and that is with a landline that we never use.
The 28 GBP will go up to 32 in April "because of inflation" - a load of bollocks obviously as inflation is not 8%.

Shop around - don't bother going through the initial channels, just say you are leaving. They will try most things but if you stick with the "I'm leaving" they will give you a much better deal

I change supplier every other year, mostly trend to swap between BT and Sky as they're the only 2 that have ever given me a total reliable service, which is important when you work from home.

And nah you don't need super speeds, if us 3 can manage on 40Mbs (2 tablets, 2 TV's, 4 phones, 2 laptops, 1 desktop, 1 sky box) anyone can.

My BT broadband contract is up too,so I need to shop around. I've always done a deal with BT for adding in BT sport,but it's worth checking to see what's on off with others. I truly hate the process,same with bike insurance,it's a big time suck to change,but it's the only time you can actually talk to any of the feckers.

Mine is £65+ with BT, i;m not sure if that includes the sport we pay for too. However if/when we move house i'll change provider potentially

If you are running over good old OpenReach cables, the world is your oyster really.

We live in the dark ages and had to have an FTTP connection ran in to get anything remotely usable, so are stuck with our provider but they aren't too pricey at £41 for a symmetrical 300Mbps connection

I'm with BT (spit !) too, but I'm out of contract. Wanted to change some stuff (cancel my TV box and the calls package) and they tried to tell me that the ONLY way to do that is to sign up for full fibre with a 24 month contract.

After a robust discussion we agreed that BTs internal rules don't trump contract law. I have what I need and want, 1 month rolling contract.

I used to work for BT, but I trust them about as far as I can chuck a bulldozer.

Just binned Virgin Media for being 100% shit. Went with GoFibre on the 500 meg deal. If you are not out of contract they will pay up to £200 of your get out fee. Well you actually pay is but they pay you in credit so your bills with be shitence for a few month. So far no outage unlike Virgin Media and no strangling. Firestick has been flawless with two Alexa running the radio and one phone and laptop.

What is the advantage of GoFibre ?

I am cheaper and about 150 meg faster but the swap was due to Virgin going down. When it is down i am meant to get £9. odds per 24 hours. It was down for two days about a month after the contract started. Got spoken to like i was an idiot as the clown on the other end could not see an issue. It was the whole town that was down not just me. No compo and no compo on the other seven occasions it went down. Every time you email to ask you got a link to the T&C's and that was it. so sod them, i left. They sent me a box to return the router. As the closest drop off shop is 11 miles away i told them that will cost them £90 and once paid i shall post the router. Yet to hear from them

I’ve used uswitch.com to search out a deal for my daughter who is currently paying too much per month to sky but it was part of a package including every sports pack her ex signed up to.

It searches for deals based on your postcode.

What is the advantage of GoFibre ?

It looks like one of the regional startups, they tend to be a better service for a lower price.
The local one round here (SE) is Trooli, I get 900Mb for £30 a month. Much better than anything using Openreach wires.

I went from BT to Virgin as Virgin do FTTP in my area which means 1GB. We're two/three people with two of us WFH somedays with the Sonos doing its thing. Can't knock the installation guys who ran the cable to the front of the house nor the quality of the connection.

It's about a bullseye a month, IIRC.

I have YouFibre at £29.99 a month and a 900mb line up and down stream. Works ok for us with 4 phones, 4 tablets and 3 pc’s. TV gets turned on very seldom.

Zen internet it’s about £34 a month fixed price , still on copper as we don’t need fibre speeds. Best bit is when it goes wrong you speak to a decent call handler/tech who doesn’t blame you for the fault and they’ll interrogate the network and tell you what’s wrong. Both times it’s been an Open Reach issue, one caused by a thunderstorm and the other by OR when they were “upgrading” their network. All fixed rapidly with excellent comms from Zen as to progress.

My current BT package has crept up to £70, it’s been binned and ends in 2 weeks, currently looking at the same package basically with EE for £48.

That sounds like the set up I had on the island. I used Tesco for the sim, cheaper than the provider they piggy back off, Vodafone? It was £15 per month for 250Gb IIRC.
