Don't sweat the French water bill - we were 3 years late paying ours and they didn't get arsey, they just made us stick it on DD instead

From the sound of it it's not a new habit, why haven't you learned to deal with yet? Apart from whining on here?
Allow me to refer you to the thread title. It's a thread specifically intended for 'whining'. If that triggers you, best to avoid the thread.

Cheers, my main concern is that they might cut the water off while I'm still in Blighty, and arrive back in April to find no water. It's not helped by the cut off point for payment. Once it's past that date they don't allow you to pay. Anyway I've sent a grovelling email and will await their response.

I always understood that the kitchen table served that purpose. Apparently not.

Ours wasn't cut off we just didn't know we had an overdue bill because we hadn't been out for 2 years and the local post office keeps our mail until they see we are in town. We went in to pay 1 years bill and were told we hadn't paid the previous 2 years at the same time. Paid the balance, apologised and they let us fill out a DD form.

The terrible travails that those nice middle class people with foreign second homes have to suffer.

I'm in a bad mood because I've lost my tiny violin.

Big up to SMEVH (the water company for the Herault and its tributaries), they emailed me back promptly - no nasty words, just advice on how to pay and would I like to set up a DD?

Bank transfer done, all good. So no drama llamas here, no sirree...

Being sucked into the blame diversion game at work. So on Sunday night some engineering work was clearing, we were due to get control of the electricity back in our control at 0200 and there was some testing at two sites to be done (one affected the other so both needed to be ready to test one another). We finally got the go to start turning stuff back on at 0250, there were 182 circuit breakers to close but before we do anything there is a safety critical comms where everything to be turned on is read out and repeated back for clarity. Anyway between us and the staff onsite we safely meshed together two separate sets of testing at adjacent sites, cleared the isolation in 60 minutes, pretty much a record time.

The possession overran as after we clear the isolation the PICOP has to clear his signal protection, this affected morning service. It turns out the track work should’ve been clear at midnight but they were still dropping rail welds at midnight! So because they overran, we and the testers at end of the job are being blamed for affecting the morning peak!

I had to get a colleague to read my email response before I sent it to make sure I wasn't about to sack myself.

I have 3 Nissan x trail sump plug tools for that reason. Always put in a “safe” place after use, never to be found again until I store the new one in the same safe place I’d forgotten about!

Restaurants where you have to use an app or touchscreen. Like this: https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cy9y1wvq3pdo

Whilst in Singapore we went for a bit of brekkie. Sat down and along came the waiter fella. Asked for a couple of menus. He pointed to a QR code on the table and told us to order there. 10 minutes of searching in the various sub-menus for savory breakfasts, sweet breakfasts, chai bowls, tea menu, coffee menu, add to basket, please enter your email address 'so that we can email you confirmation of your order' :wtf:

Got up, walked out, went to place with a proper menu and where the bloke came over, asked what we'd like, tapped it into his device in 30 seconds and brought it to the table. Job jobbed.

FFS, I like to be served, not have to navigate a crap website for 10 minutes to find a cappuccino.

Don't get me started on Black Sheep Coffee. :angry-cussingblack:

Same recently in a burger joing in Cambridge.
I don't mind so much ordering things in an app ok, but it's a little bit annoying in a relaxing scenario to have to scroll through menu items multiple times, when everyone at your table is umming and ahing and changing their minds. Of course I messed up the first order, went back, managed to order the same thing twice. All of this in a near empty restaurant watched by at least two "waiters".

In the end I griped to one of them and they came over and sorted it out.
