Crashed a fair few times in my Bluegrass and I much prefer that it feels like a motorbike full face rather than a thinly cushioned mtb helmet.
Plus I see more DH guys now moving to more MX based helmets
So thought I’d try. Got Dyfi in a few weeks time so thought I’d treat myself. It may not work in terms of weight etc, but let’s find out anyway

Re: What have you bought for bicycle today?
Well it won't be too much of a shock, but it's a nope from me. Just a bit too snug/restrictive and i guess a bit on the heavy side as well.weeksy wrote: Sat Jan 10, 2026 6:32 pmIt’s still not here yet, tracking shows it as not having been collected from dealer yetcrust wrote: Sat Jan 10, 2026 6:15 pmThe issue I had when I wore my MX helmet at BPW is that the peak doesn't go high enough. Happily it'll only cost me a fiver to find out and send it back... could be a lot of fivers though

Good concept though - and I guess for full on down hill weight is not a major issue

Yeah that's one of the criticisms in reviews, but in truth i'll use it 3-4 times a year. So it won't much matter in honesty, it's not like i'm pedalling all day in it.

Now that I know what is wrong with my back, i can begin gentle cycling - but when to do get back on the MTB eeb it will be with a full face until it gets warmer ..weeksy wrote: Mon Jan 19, 2026 9:34 amYeah that's one of the criticisms in reviews, but in truth i'll use it 3-4 times a year. I have a POC face which seems heavily vented - whether it is rated for a GNARfest is another matter

Re: What have you bought for bicycle today?
I have the Bell Super Air Spherical for that... but i wasn't convinced it was quite up to the potential of a DH crash. Not that i'm flying in terms of speed, but for places like Dyfi, i just wanted a bit 'more'Mr Moofo wrote: Mon Jan 19, 2026 9:41 amNow that I know what is wrong with my back, i can begin gentle cycling - but when to do get back on the MTB eeb it will be with a full face until it gets warmer ..

The ABUS is well rated and due to being able to get from DMR/Upgrade it was silly cheap.

Re: What have you bought for bicycle today?
NO! MTB's are enough of a hobby that reduces a large pile of money too pennies. No way I could afford a boat. A work colleague has one and the running costs are horrendous.Mr Moofo wrote: Tue Feb 10, 2026 4:32 pmYou have a boat?MingtheMerciless wrote: Tue Feb 10, 2026 3:33 pmSome of the marine salvage is very interesting.weeksy wrote: Fri Feb 06, 2026 11:56 am Minions

You can get the UK boat experience by standing in the (cold) shower cutting £50 notes into small pieces and flushing them down the plughole.MingtheMerciless wrote: Tue Feb 10, 2026 4:43 pmNO! Re: What have you bought for bicycle today?
New set of Fox Moto X gloves , the ones made from perforated leather with the carbon knuckles. My pansy office hands suffer with cuts from the South Downs scrub, particularly black thorn which has a nasty habit of going very pussy.
Also a new groupo for the Curtis, XG-1299 10-52 cassette , eagle chain and 36T 6mm offset chainring....got a good deal from mate at the Lewes LBS.
Also waiting on a new set of Lyriks for the Curtis but that maybe on hold as a new version is coming out (3.2 damper and more oingy boingey and betterer according to LBS manager
) about the same time as the ones I want arrive.
Good job it's back okay month.

Re: What have you bought for bicycle today?
The Bird bike has been treated to a Rockshox Super Deluxe Select+ Rear Shock.
Riding at the weekend and there was a funny knocking noise, it turned out it was the shock each time it compressed. It was holding air but when I was testing I found the lockout had stopped working too. It's out the bike now, and happily all the pivots are moving nicely and have no play so I think we're all good (well it will be when the new one arrives).

Re: What have you bought for bicycle today?
Nice, you'll like an SD, they work really well. Go about 1psi per Lb of weight, generally.
