A mate was wiped out in the week before Christmas by a flu type thing. I'm slightly nervous as haven't had a flu or covid jab this year and whilst I've never had the "laid out, can't move" type flu (or Covid) there does seem to be a lot of it about this year and I do see snotty and coughing tourists every saturday and sunday - oh and each morning three days a week doing the free shuttle in Peisey. You really would have thought that people would have learned to at least cover their mouths when coughing in an enclosed space, but nope

Roomies son is getting on my last fucking nerve. He buys/cooks/eats the mankiest/cheapest burgers known to humanity & somehow manages to leave the stove top coated in grease in spite of using one of them things that go over the frying pan to catch all the shit that flies out of the pan.
He then does fuck all about cleaning it for days, ditto washing up... which has been sitting in the sink for 4 fucking days now. The guy is 43 FFS.

The pair of then went away for 6 days over Chrimble & left the kitchen looking like a major health hazard... which took me all of 10 minutes to clean shortly after they left.

First day in ages I could have a lie in, so the wife slams the front door at 09:00hrs slowly drift back off half under a nice warm duvet, when daughter comes in 20 minutes later complaining that her handbrake won't release.

So instead of trying to catch the tale end of a rather erotic dream* I have to get up, defrost the car inside and out and drive her to work.

*sexy fun time with a lesbian zombie if anyone cares, or maybe just during a zombie apocalypse, I don't recall.

WTAF are there anti condensation vents in windows in an area so cold in winter but no option to shut them off ?????

It's been around -5/-6 most mornings for weeks, -9 this morning. Not a massive issue for me when outside but I've had the heating on (ok, not ever so high) since probably November and I'm rarely warm here.

Only realised the other day that there was a vent in the bedroom window (I'd felt the breeze from the one in the kitchen weeks ago and covered it with sellotape, just didn't think to look at the others ) - even with the wooden shutters closed, a fair bit of wind was coming through, bastarding COLD breeze!!!! The fire is by a window that I have the shutters closed over and as soon as the fire starts to die, even there I was cold - YES, bastarding vent in the window

So, more sellotape and today I've covered every vent with sellotape and am now hoping it's actually warm in here soon!!!

I think trickle vents are mandatory on newly fitted windows (except in historic - and probably draughty buildings) according to building regs. It was the case in the UK that, if the old ones didn't have them the new ones didn't have to, so ours haven't but I leave the top small panels on the 'night latch' anyway. With them closed the air quality suffers - CO² levels get up past 1200ppm if two people are sitting/sleeping in a room.

But, it was minus 9 this morning and all but two windows (I'd taped bedroom and kitchen vents) had -9 air breezing in!!!! No bloody wonder my electric bill is so high (electric rad in bathroom, I left the door open to keep the chill off the bedroom too) and that I am NEVER warm unless the fire is raging!!!!

I sort of get the reasoning, but living with it here it just feels fucking stupid - and cold !!!!!

Just got new windows three weeks ago. My vents are huge but i can click them closed or guide the air up or down.

They sound like badly designed vents - they're supposed to be 'trickle' not 'draught'.

I'd suggest getting a fan blower for local heating ie warming up the bathroom in a morning. Much more efficient at heating a volume of air than a small rad. (I've got several at strategic points. The shower room only has a heated 'ladder' type rad which is enough to stop things freezing but 10 mins of warm air and it's fine for showering and it stops the mirror from getting covered in condensation so it's good for managing humidity too. Once I'm out of the shower and dry I don't care if it's cold in there. Got one in the kitchen too although I want to put a couple of 'kick-plate' fan blowers in there.

It may be partly cos the place is pretty big really and only one person in it!! But covering them up has made a big difference

I need to work out how to manage the 'ladder' type rad better - I just want it warm when I want a shower and then to dry the towels!!

I am paying for the oil heating but I do tend to have it down very low mostly. Just walking in this afternoon the place is so much warmer But I do have a small oil filled rad (albeit, missing a foot!!) so might try and use that in the shower room instead of the ladder jobbie - I can put it on a time that will probably be easier to control than the fixed one!

Umm, it is a real fire, and that makes sense. But I do only have a fire a couple of evenings a week at most and not for ages usually - even so, I'll take that on board and maybe uncover a vent when the fire is going!!! (Quite a big place and even with the vents covered, it's not remotely hermetically sealed !!! )

I'll be honest, it's rarely raging if I have proper wood/logs - I've been using off cuts of various stuff (the landlords had a big crate full outside and said I could use it), and it does burn awful quick and load!

I plan to get proper wood in the next week or so but when I have a fire, I'll undo at least one vent (although I do think this place is draughty enough without doing that, now you've said it, I'll feel I have to!!!)

Utterly forgot to pay the DART charge after using the QE2 bridge over xmas, but now I have to wait for the PCN to come through the letterbox before I can pay up!

It's not the fine I object to, per se, it's the idiocy that I have to wait for a letter to arrive before I can make good!

It was about that since I'd last used it but it made a trip up to Cambridgeshire stress free before Christmas and I know that if the mood suddenly takes me to head north (and if the western side of the M25 is ever gummed up) it's all sorted.

Ordered 4 x 3mm nylon spacers

I got some 2.60, 2.65, 2.67, 2.70 spacers instead.
