Well I managed it without burning myself, maybe slightly singed. The wax takes at least 45 mins to melt in the slow cooker. Chain is on the bike, I think I may have left it too long in the cooling wax but as it was the first go I can refine the process next time. Chain is noisier (I'd been warned about this) and it may take a few miles to loose some of its stiffness. I'll try it tomorrow after the weather has barrelled through.

How many chains are you doing over the course of say 12 months ? or even say 24 months.

Probably 4-5 chains a year across 3 bikes (2 on the road bike and Eeb and one on the Curtis). Mainly I want to see if it lives ups to the promise of a cleaner looking transmission on the road bike as it gets really gunky and horrible with winter commutes.

I clean my chain after every ride.

GT85 then wiped and dried and then a light lube

Horrible ride to work this morning and chain is not covered in gunk, almost spotless compared to the muc off ceramic I was using.

Got snowed on this mornings commute, distinctly unimpressed, also twitchy bum moment on the Firle lane when the road turned white and then hit the frozen water that sheets across the road.

I've been using Squirt chain lube for the last 18 months on both of my bikes and I'm really impressed with the life / lack of wear in the chains.

None of the the faff of the old skool chain waxing.

Despite 520 miles of mainly soggy commuting, when I inspected the praxis BB today it was still clean and the grease in good nick. Freshly waxed chain installed and good to go.
