Getting my sense of smell back, slowly but surely. Lost it to covid a few years ago, but now i'm starting to pick up on things like bonfire smoke and cooking smells again.

My sense of smell sort of came back, but I am still lacking the sense of taste (i know, in so many ways!!) - still hoping it will come back completely, just not expecting soon !!!

Due to work after this afternoon and found out the project have cocked up and can't do the commissioning I was required for so now not working but as less than 24hrs notice I'm still paid for it.

Don’t really know where to post this so, happy it is!

More trawling through a big folder of stuff. For background, my BDad’s mum was Northern Irish (Protestant). My Dad was born in England and joined the Royal Sussex regiment

I do have a photo of my Dad leading a group (I have no idea of the terminology ) through the city of Belfast. Grannie had told me that the regiment (???) was given freedom of the city of Belfast (and I so love that an English born, part NI Protestant was given that!!)

Anyway. Part of the folder must have come from papers in my Grannies place after she died - I think she bought every paper that day 29 June 1961 is the date on the papers!!). She even marked one of the cuttings so everyone could see which was my Dad!!!

So I’ve got some stuff here, plus the invite (plan?) of the celebration dinner!!














I can't share this on FB for now as I have a mate dealing with some serious late onset PTSD due to being posted to NI very young, he wasn't doing an ideal type of job for that area but certainly not for a kid. So, cos this is making me smile so much - you guys get the share

In the week I'll try and open up more of the cuttings and take decent photos - happy if you want to copy this from here and show it.

No idea of their ages, but my Dad was born in 1937 and he was a 2nd Lt (pretty sure, seen it written/typed somewhere) in the Royal Sussex regiment for this freedom of the city in 1961

It's pretty cool to see all the bits I've found - not doing more looking today as it's the anniversary of his funeral and I'm a bit wobbly!! But I will look through more

He spent a lot of time in Cyprus with the UN forces too

Sold my Bell crash helmet for £65 making my new Airoh even cheaper. I went into the loft-of-plenty to get the box for it and found a pair of Spada boots I forgot I owned. They have quite thick sole so were consigned to the loft-of-plenty as they cramped my leg room on my first X-ADV, however, they will be most welcome for getting onto the very high Africa Twin!

Bit of a humblebrag as well but

Out on the MTB for a pedal today, i'm heading back on the road section and some roadie comes past me, "oooooh" thinks me, "lets get after him".

So i chase him down over the next 500m and catch him, he drops me on a kicker and i think "let him go" but then as he crests the top i think "nah, lets go" and pull back the 50m gap he's got on me.... I know he's trying by his riding style and him glancing back at the side angle.

As i pull along side him he goes "your battery will be dead soon at that pace"
"battery?"
"yeah on your Ebike"
"oh ! it's not an ebike mate sorry"

I nearly fell off the bike laughing

I was complimented on my driving today - by a very experienced colleague !!!

I'm very very happy ! I mean, not all the routes this afternoon were that good, but just getting the compliment, in front of a ton of other colleagues, was just freaking awesome!!



Basically, after we leave the bus station (having picked up a load of kids) a whole 'fleet' of buses go through Moutiers, up to a roundabout at the edge of town, take a right and head back this way.

Most people stop at the roundabout. But in the bus I was driving, if you stop it feels like it takes forever to get any momentum again - and it's very slightly uphill there.

So I drove up really gently watching the traffic and as I got there a van thinking of coming onto the roundabout big time hesitated, so I floored it !!

Amazing that something so little can get such a big compliment !!

Getting a message from the lovely Mrs Gremlin telling me she's still up in the smoke, so we're meeting up for cheeky Thursday cocktails.

Only a breakdown in communication had me boarding a train at Cannon Street, jumping off at London Bridge and making haste on another train to get to Charing Cross, where Mrs Gremlin was.

Only in that time, she'd jumped on a train to London Bridge, so we probably passed one another. After a call, in which she advised me that she was having a lovely Ginger Fall cocktail, I jumped back on a train from Charing Cross to London Bridge to enjoy, what I thought might be a few drinks, possibly a bit of nosebag, but no. My nephew, who we rely on to do Sydney duty if we are ou,t cried off sick.

Getting up in time to prep and get the leg of lamb on by 10am. Prepped all the veggies. Walked dogs up the woods and returned to a house that smells of Sunday roast! Kids on route with their other halves. Perfect!
