Really? I put around 400,000 miles on half a dozen CB250RSs on the roads as a courier. I've still got one. I wouldn't want to ride it round the M25 but it's perfectly capable of getting out of London up the A40 or the A1 to have an afternoon's riding on the fun roads in the home counties. My brother and a friend took the same model overland, across the Sahara when the middle section was sand only and right down to the border of South Africa, and another friend raced one round the Circuit de Pyrenees back in the 80s.

How much power? 26 hp.

I suspect the big difference is that the BSA wouldn't need a fraction of the TLC that it took to keep the Honda running reliably forty years ago.

Fair point, but I've personally found in the last few years, the appeal of owning these lower powered bikes soon wears off. Having to ring its neck just to go with the flow. But it is horses for courses and on the smaller lanes they'll be fine, maybe not so much if you have to use the busier roads.

The Enfield 650s are 47hp and I eventually found that not quite enough, almost but not quite.

I just looked up how many 'geegees' my Panther 120 (650cc) generated. A mighty 28.

You could stick your family and dog in the sidecar of one of those and ride to Australia...it would have fired at least 300 times en route.

No doubt you'd get there in a quarter of the time if you painted it blue and white.
