Ironically trials bikes are the one type I can consistently expect to be able to get both feet down on.

I can get my feet on the ground safely on my GasGas.
Maybe helped by my 14 stones of Yorkshire goodness

I always knew this was an issue for me (thought I had long legs till I started riding a bike!) but then I borrowed a mates ZX12r for a quick trip to Bristol to pick up a part for my ZZR600 and so so nearly dropped it at some lights in Bristol where the camber on the left side went down a lot more than I expected and it was also a downhill slope!!

From that day I never put my left foot down for a stop on a road I didn't know very Very well! I always put my right foot down and got pretty good at doing hill starts off the front brake because often I couldn't do the 'shuffle' and swap feet as most do!

Over here I've not noticed a major camber at most places I stop, but now I do tend to put my left foot down cos 'usually' I'd expect the camber to go to the right!

Use a very brief countersteer and release just as you nip in the clutch to get the bike leaning and that foot down.

Many riders just wobble to halt, with the bike leaning whichever way the last wobble went. Or wave a leg around and use that weight to make fall over / lean.

No idea exactly what I do (well did!) but I rarely wobbled . And definitely chose which side I would lean!! Always the other side to the lower bit of the camber

And the last few weeks mine has too and it's got me thinking like Yorick, they're just too damn heavy for what they need to do. A 30 yr old Honda XR250 puts out the same power as a Himalayan 411 and weighs 70kg less with more travel and ground clearance.

The only thing it lacks is a screen and some racks.

Quite why a crf300/voge300/Rieju307 needs to be 170kg god only knows. It can't be due to A2 as a390 Duke is more powerful and lighter.

Yes emissions and ABS but changing my exhaust to a decat only saved 4kg and abs removal would only be 2kg more...

The weight just sucks out the fun off road

A full road going 690 Duke weighs less than 170kg, think they are 160 wet, with ABS and a full dustbin sized cat underneath, plus TC etc. I have no idea how modern bikes are so heavy.

The nearest thing I can think of to an XR250R is something like a KTM250EXC or similar. If you move along the KTM range to something like the 690 Enduro R, then it's around 170kg fully fuelled.

There's a couple of people have done around the World trips on a KTM500EXC. You're not thrashing the nuts off it in a race which extends the service intervals. Pop on a high volume clutch cover for extra oil capacity which extends the oil change interval even more and you're good to go. About 110kg on the road.
