I'm old: Is private medical insurance worth it?

You’re comparing the U.K. and the US which are at opposite ends of the spectrum but there are many countries in between that that have varying degrees of healthcare.

Every one has a different method of funding and obviously some have better outcomes than others.

The trouble with the U.K. version (my opinion only) is the demands on it are becoming greater every year and we simply can’t afford to keep it in its current state. Unfortunately the NHS is held up as untouchable and a drastic reset in how it’s financed would be political suicide.

Just investigating a few quotes at the moment -and worryingly, BUPA is coming in cheaper.
Whilst there is a huge shopping list of things you can include, I fail to see any quantification between partial diagnosis and full diagnosis.
And once again a google search just brings up a whole load of quote sites.
Any ideals / experience?

It sounds like a limit on diagnostic tests so once the limit is met no more tests even if the condition hasn't been fully diagnosed.

This particular bot posted 6 times without any links, without bouncing any topics and actually gave decent advice.

This is the first bot in about 500+ I recall getting past a few posts

I used the NHS for the last 15 years and when I 'turned native' and joined the company I was consulting for, part of my package was the option of Private Heatlh.
However, there was no cover for pre-existing conditions which kind of made it worthless as I have diverticulitis (which never really goes away) and had a TIA last year (mini-stroke) and my wife is a Multiple Sclerosis sufferer.
Imagine my surprise when I got a message from our guys saying they'd changed the insurer, gone to Bupa and pre-existing conditions are OK.

So now I'm covered by Bupa but I must say, the NHS have looked after Mrs GP brilliantly and there is no way she would swap her neurologist for anyone else.
My company cover the BIK via a salary adjustment but to be honest, if it cost much, I wouldn't bother - but maybe I'm lucky in the postcode lottery?

I looked back at past posts too and thought, on balance, I'd let it go and just keep monitoring. (There's definitely one other possible bot/link poster that applies to as well). It's reasonable to keep a watching brief on these things and see how they're evolving.
