Safe travels and I hope the bike survives the jet wash. :(

It was the undoing of my ex-pt mate. He missed the seasons and walks in the woods and going to a proper English pub with horse brasses on the beams and a pub garden with benches. He gave up his beautiful villa in Alicante to come home to that. What a twat!

Did my first trackday in 15 years the other day! Was a bit creaky but enjoyed it enough to book another cheeky evening one for a few days later after work :)

173 Benelli miles today in mixed condition. Over to Bala where it pissed down, then on to Tywyn passing Cader idris where it was sunny, then through Happy Valley, yes proper name, then Newtown on way home.

Bit of shoulder blade ache but otherwise all good. Happy with the new bike but it is definitely a bit lumpy is slow first gear stuff, not a problem tbh.

Finished work a bit early tonight and went out for a few hours. Up the Cat'n'Fiddle out towards Hope, back via Snake Pass and Chapel-en-le-Frith. Think I might have been caught on the new average speed cameras on Long Hill out of Whaley Bridge. Didn't even know they had them on that road. Have to wait a couple of weeks to find out. I think I'd already gone passed the first camera by the time I noticed the next one. Might take a drive back over to check. Another thing to stress out about ffs. Almost at 600 miles so need to book that first service.

Dry but getting cool now. I was glad of my heated gloves for the couple of hours riding.

Brother and a friend came over, took a ride over to the Joule's brewery pub for lunch - not been for a few years, it was excellent.

Went over to Newcastle afterwards for a look around DK as the other two hadn't been before. Usual mix of optimistically priced american and Japanese imported stuff. Did take a bit of a shine to this:

Not crazy expensive and not a huge amount of work needed. The sensible 'what would I do with it, when would I ride it' voices won out.

Sunny today but, yep, there's a chill. Regret the vented jacket a bit.

Yesterday I went to SBS Preston to pick up a new jacket.https://www.sportsbikeshop.co.uk/motorc ... rod/549082
I didn't know the following was possible but I rode my SV650X & accidentally picked up the keys to my SV650S.I put the key in the ignition & noticed it wasn't very smooth inserting the key.Started up the bike, eveything's good, stopped for some petrol, same again the key's not smooth but noticably bad, fill up the tank & ride off to Preston. When I go leave the shop I can't find the key to the bike, but I notice that I've got the key to my SV650S in my pocket. These days I always carry the spare key in one of my pockets so I put that in the ignition & rode home. When I got home I found the correct key for the bike in the house.
I'm wondering if wrong key worked because I had the spare key in my pocket & the ECU could read that?
After that drama I took the bike out with the original correct key & new jacket

Today I've been out around the Trough of Bowland breaking in the new jacket, lovely day for a ride in the Autumn sunshine

Remember losing the key to my ETZ125 once, all you needed was a pair of needle nose pliers to get that switched on

The GSXS has an immobiliser light which comes on then goes off when the key is inserted. Having never tried a different I've no idea if another suzuki key works! I did see an American vid where a shop used 1 key to start several different Kawasakis!

My Street Triple also has a Imobiliser light, the SV650's aren't so sophisticated. From what I've read on forums,if you buy a pattern replacement ignition lock you have to fit a resistor so I assume that as long as the key has the relevant resistor & turns the ignition barrel it'll fire up  .I think I'll have to fit some kind of hidden switch.
I've no plans on owning a Kawasaki so I won't lose any sleep over their lack of security

Up until some time in the 1970s, BMW bikes could be switched on with a nail.

I must say I'm quite happy with a keyless bike now - having lived with it for a few thousand miles. It's just quite convenient and there's no fob waving round.

I make sure it's in the same pocket all the time, mind, and carabinerered to a belt loop, just in case.

I quite like the keyless on the 9GT.

Another 100 miles done today, out to Castleton, back home via Snake Pass. It's still a nice road if you don't get held up by traffic. A few glimpses of the sun, but a fairly dull but dry ride.

I'd imagine they'll be getting wrapped up for winter soon enough. 👍
