Road surface a bit sketchy in places?

You could do a cracking, pretty unique, competition on that road. Might be a few issues with safety but they manage other road races here and there.
Talking to the group we all agree that the Transfargarasan is a box that needs ticking and the views are spectacular however, it's busy (traffic), there are a lot of bears and the tarmac is crap. Most bikers prefer the Transalpina where the tarmac is near perfect and it has long, sweeping bends - it is ace and the part I look forward most to doing again.

Too soon to ask where you're heading to after you've finished leading the next tour?

(This is making me get proper itchy for a European tour. It's been a while. It's also the wrong end of the year, but hey, that gives me planning time 😇)
If you Google The Saxon House (Garbova) they will lend you a bike and take you on a tour :D

I will be heading to Croatia next for some sun and sand.

It's tempting! Much as I loved Romania, I'd like to go somewhere new though - I'm idly contemplating North Macedonia or Albania...

Meanwhile enjoy Croatia, I have zero doubt you will ☺️

If you're heading over there in a South-Westerly direction, Montenegro is stunning, and the Sedlo pass well worth a detour.

If you're going more North-Westerly and fancy a day off the bike, don't miss a wander round Plitvice lakes - if you go early you'll miss the coach-loads of tourists and get it practically to yourself, worth it as it's proper gorgeous.

(Google Photos popped up this morning to tell me we did the Croatian coast road from Split to Bacina this time two years ago - it was lush!)

My experience too. The Transalpina is consistently better surface, the Transfargarason had a nasty habbit of being good for a bit and then very rough halfway around a blind hairpin.

Me too !! I'm planning to get a bike in the spring (maybe Feb!) but reading Trinity's posts and following Tomcat - well, there's a lot of France to explore but I am leaning towards going further afield now !!!

Good morning from a little fishing village on the Croatian island of Pag. I am leaving here on Thursday and wish I could stay longer. I could get used to watching the sunrise here with the gentle lapping of water.

Warning to anyone travelling to Croatia - none of the cafes/restaurants are taking cards though everywhere else (petrol, supermarkets) does. I got by on €10 yesterday. Today's only mission is to dawdle around the island and find an ATM.

Sounds like overall it's been a good battery charger of a trip for you. Much enjoyed the vicarious experience. 8-)

On my way from Croatia to Italy. Stopped at a random cafe that isn't on the map to discover it's a biker cafe

I lost a fight with a mosquito yesterday and woke up with a swollen eye (it bit me on the eyelid). I have never looked so 'ard.

Nearly home. Currently in a lovely Airbnb 50 miles south east of Reims, France. I have a ferry booked tonight from Dieppe to Newhaven so will be home around 6am.

Yesterday was hard work. I left my hotel near The Black Forest before breakfast and had a very pleasant hour before coming to a road closure (road works) which I navigated around only to come to another road closure (landslide). It felt like I would never get out. Having said that, every road I took was fantastic and I would love to go back to explore some more.

Then I hit relentless rain. I knew the +25c, blue skies was going to end at some point. The temperature dropped to 10c and even though I had waterproofs on I wasn't wearing a warm base layer so it was a hard slog.

Today I am checking out as late as possible as I don't have to be at Dieppe port until 22:30 so a slow, final leg to go. I will wear a warm jumper :P

First pic Austria two mornings ago and second pic The Black Forest yesterday morning.

Sounds like you got hit by the same storm that passed through southern France around midday on Sunday, Visibility was down to about 20 metres at the worst point. Hopefully it had expended some of its energy before you encountered it.

Today is blue skies and a few fluffy clouds...
There is no cloud, just somebody else's computer.
