I don't know about 8000 being enough, hell I'm lucking to hit 3000 on a weekday, but IIRC the 10,000 part comes from the name of the pedometer in Japanese

Do potatoes count if they're fried?
I suppose I might have some rice with my curry too.

Yes you are right. Particularly as we are ALL different, so while 15 units might be too much for you, someone else might be fine with 25.Mr Moofo wrote: Sat Sep 13, 2025 8:18 am Whist fully condoning everyone’s attempts to reduce alcohol consumption, please be aware that the safe units target, just like the 8g of salt a day and 10000 steps a day have little to do with scientific fact but are generated by government groups.

I have really struggled to eat veg/salad because it's not 'interesting' !! and Fruit, that's always triggered something in me because fruit is sugar !!KungFooBob wrote: Sat Sep 13, 2025 9:08 amI don't have five pieces of fruit or veg a year, nevermind a day.Count Steer wrote: Sat Sep 13, 2025 8:40 am

The other week when my SDad was out with my nephew and a couple of others, every day SDad made a salad. Damn they were good !! Not boring and definitely interesting.
I am now having salad for lunch every day (well, week days !! Don't eat lunch at weekends/days off, its brunch and dinner !!). Trick is to have LOTS in the salad with lots of protein
I have access to fresh plums, apples and pears here, so have actually been eating some fruit !!!
Now to find a way to eat veggies that makes them interesting and more than just 'green stuff wots healthy'

Re: How much alcohol do you consume per week ?
Had to google that ! Luckily Google was my friend this eveing !!
Thing is, I will, and do, eat veggie dishes but Im more interested in finding a way to easily cook veggies as a side to some protein (ok, meat!!) so that I will enjoy the veg as much as the protein !!!
But I have saved the recipe for the imam bayildi and may well have a go if I see some aubergines and fancy a change

We have a regular guest comes here every year. His dad beat him and forced him to eat healthy food.KungFooBob wrote: Sat Sep 13, 2025 9:08 amI don't have five pieces of fruit or veg a year, nevermind a day.Count Steer wrote: Sat Sep 13, 2025 8:40 amA bit like the 5-a-day fruit and veg thing. Or chip butties.
His missus says he eats same every day
He's as fit and healthy as anybody.
Oh, he doesn't drink, which helps i suppose

According to my mother I've not willingly eaten veg since I was a very small child and had meningitis.
They used to try and force it down me, but as soon as I hit my teens they gave up and I cooked my own food.
I don't eat pizza, it's got tomatoes on it... and cheese, yuk!

I'd give up meat before I'd give up cheese.

Too much at the moment. But I go through phases, so I'm not too concerned.
Calorie counting at the moment (down a stone and a quarter now) is keeping it down a bit, but not really enough.

Re: How much alcohol do you consume per week ?
I think we're borderline on the limit.
At least 1 glass of wine each evening. Friday/ Saturday a bit more, if we use that hot tub we tend to have a spirit (g&t or r&c), occasionally we'll empty a bottle of fizz or so of an evening.
Don't tend to get plastered much anymore though.

Re: How much alcohol do you consume per week ?
That sounds very similar to my level of consumption. But without the hot tub... As I've got older suffering a hangover has been less and less manageable, and my tolerance to alcohol has decreased, so my alcohol consumption is pretty much self-regulating.Rockburner wrote: Sat Sep 13, 2025 7:26 pm I think we're borderline on the limit.

Count as two if cooked in vegetable oil, only one if cooked in lard

Re: How much alcohol do you consume per week ?
I'd gone all week without a beer and was sleeping well.
Sat morning I woke at 4.50am and couldn't sleep, weird.
Had 3 beers when sorting bikes yesterday, woke up at 5am today.
What do we learn from this.
Sometimes I just wake up early. But I do like a nice bottle of Tribute.

Re: How much alcohol do you consume per week ?
I know the 'battery charge' measurement on smart watches is a bit
and I'm not sure what it measures (battery charges if resting pulse is below a certain figure, micro variations in the pulse or whatever?) but, consistently over the last 3 years, if I have so much as a decent sized glass of red* - overnight battery charge = ~0.
So, alcohol does something to sleep quality and I'm surprised how little has an effect. I still thought a single glass of red with the evening meal helped digestion/relaxation etc etc etc.
If I wake up v early/have difficulty with sleep it's usually because of other factors - either food or stress related. (There are odd occasions when I wake up early, sun's rising and I'm full of beans and raring to crack on with something and I'm up and at 'em Atom Ant
- and ready for some kip at 9pm
).
* with evening meal ie none after 7pm at the latest.
