I descale them 3 times a year, use filtered water, treat them as a revered member of the family.
And yet in 8 years we've gone through 3 machines/2 elements.
We're back on the stove top, which tbf makes a very good brew, but does lack the switch on and forget about it aspect.

Those changing rooms with mirrors fitted so you can see yourself from wierd angles.
I was trying a shirt on and wondered who the old, fat bloke was who'd just walked in.

My washing machine that insists on turning all my T shirts inside out.
My tumble dryer that insists on stuffing all the bedding inside the duvet cover, including half the duvet cover, despite me making sure all the buttons are done up.

Day off today with loads of jobs planned and after a rubbish nights sleep I've woken up feeling like shit and am now sitting on the sofa with a lemsip.

Very minor winding up. The area artists open studio annual event has announced a shortlist of 18 finalists for their artist of the year. They say the list is 'diverse'.
Well they might be diverse in that they're potters and painters and stitchers etc but, once again, there's only one gender represented.
You'd almost think the blokes are too busy at work to spare the time to be present during open studio days.

To be fair I know one of them and she does make her living (and pays her mortgage etc) from what she produces (stained glass, and brilliant it is).Skub wrote: Wed Sep 10, 2025 10:03 amOr....they've had enough days when the painter's in.Count Steer wrote: Wed Sep 10, 2025 9:49 am Very minor winding up. I can lock my phone to portrait mode
or I can have it automatically switch between portrait and landscape.
But I can't lock it to landscape

IT monkeys…
New VPN solution has been deployed removing network access to employer supplied scanner / printer.
So far:
“Can you turn it off and back on again”
“Can you try removing device and re-adding it” - which I’d stated on the ticket I’d already done
IT support remote desktop access doing the above followed by I’ll escalate it.
Solution: “can you plug it in via USB?” which does work but I need to move the laptop closer to the printer to be able to use it.
Latest response “we can send you a longer usb lead (rather than fix the problem causing the issue)”

Our pensions department; one of my colleagues who's nickname is "The Accountant" has spotted that they have missed grade increases/pay rises/promotions and told them that the figures they had for his pensionable pay were wrong and probably all of the rest of depots staff as well. They have corrected his history but not bothered to look at any one else's, so now they're going to get 18 similarly worded/generic emails telling them to look at and then correct peoples figures.

Sounds like the response when a speed camera partnership is told one of their cameras isn't legal.MingtheMerciless wrote: Thu Sep 11, 2025 5:16 pm Our pensions department; one of my colleagues who's nickname is "The Accountant" has spotted that they have missed grade increases/pay rises/promotions and told them that the figures they had for his pensionable pay were wrong and probably all of the rest of depots staff as well.
