Very occasionally I saw a similar type up in La Plagne, but really not often. They are around the office/depot area for sure. Just kinda cool but weird that they are bimbling past my doorJody wrote: Fri Sep 12, 2025 5:10 pmI recall seeing plenty in La Rosiere spring several years ago !?Noggin wrote: Fri Sep 12, 2025 1:49 pm This does make me happy but kinda weirds me out a bit !! RN friend of the family got posted to Singapore for long enough that his wife & kids went too. Wife walks into the kitchen one morning & there's a lizard, she freaks out, calls the Base to send someone to take care of the problem...Count Steer wrote: Fri Sep 12, 2025 2:04 pm Ooh nice! Lizardsare

I remember sitting in a bar* and having a gecko on the ceiling right over my head. When you got your eye in the bar had loads of them.
(Humble brag...it was in Raffles in Singapore in the 80s).
"Don't worry, they're just harmless geckos & it will eat the the bugs etc..."
It's still there an hour later, she calls again...
They reassure her that it's harmless gecko, will wander off & just ignore it.
An hour later, another call, more reassurances from the people at the Base.
At noon she calls again, by now she's frantic & states that she can't get into the kitchen to make her husbands lunch as the lizard is blocking the door...
"Er, how big is this lizard exactly madam?"
*It's at least 4ft long and....*
".. leave the house immediately, we're on our way.."

Went to visit a Greek friends parents in Crete a good few years back. They had lizards coming in the window and running up the walls. They leave them alone as they come in for the insects and tend to leave again. I went to Ephesus in Turkiye two or three years later. Them lizzards are huge. I would think a bite or even a whip of the tail would hurt. The things fascinate me

A bite would probably give you a hefty dose of salmonella. You don't even want those things breathing on you if they're monitors. A colleague used to keep some lizards in a vivarium and he'd feed them chunks of cat food iirc. Even the little ones have iffy oral hygiene.
Feel a bit miffed now, went to Ephesus and didn't see any lizards.

Not always like that in Turkey in winter though. The east gets v cold and that's when the earthquake season is.
Seen snow in Istanbul too...which made for some good pics. Saw tourists buying coats...they'd come dressed for some sun.

I have been in Istanbul when it snow heavily, and was freezing. The taxis with little or no tyre tread then become worrying, or rather, more worrying

Re: Insignificant Things That Make You Happy.
We were trying to think of something to do today when my Son rang and said are you in as i'll pop over and hes ended up staying the day and had dinner with us. Plus, my daughter rang earlier and said she'll pop over to show us her new car, although she didnt stay too long as she had her friends with her. But it was nice to (unexpectedly) get to see my kids today, especially as I could see my wife edging towards a shopping trip somewhere...

Just been to buy some new jeans and was thoroughly looked after by one of the assistants, she picked out various jeans, shirts, hoodies and jumpers for me to try, suggesting smaller sizes than I expected for the hoodies and jumpers, all of which fitted perfectly
Decided on a pair of jeans, a hoodie and a jumper, £20 off for that combo with a further £20 off as I’m a Red Tab member. Just checking emails and I’ve got a further £30 off voucher so I’ll be heading back for some polo shirts and another hoodie.
Yeah I know it is just good sales and marketing but it’s nice to feel looked after and get an unexpected discounts.
