How much alcohol do you consume per week ?
Re: How much alcohol do you consume per week ?
I honestly don’t think I’ve had an alcoholic drink this year. I’m not teetotal but just not bothered by it, I find drinking at home a strange idea and as I don’t really go out to places where drink is involved it just passes me by.

Re: How much alcohol do you consume per week ?
In the UK I hardly drink. It took me 20 years to realise that some alcohols give me a migraine, particularly ale/Guinness and wine. So in the UK I stick to spirits and don't drink very often (once a month maybe).
Here in Romania it's a different story. I have been drinking local wine and palinka every evening. All are homemade and contain no preservatives/sulphates. I do not get a headache and provided I eat, drink water and get enough sleep, I wake up fine. It's brilliant

Have to admit that since moving on to decent bourbons, and local beers & ciders that aren't mass produced and available in supermarkets I've not had a hangover or felt rough in the slightest.

Re: How much alcohol do you consume per week ?
I've never really been a drinker. I drank occasionally to join in (usually bike rallies to try and help me sleep when camping, and shut everyone up that got pissy that I didn't drink - but that was things like baileys and tia maria, not exactly strong !! )
Came over here and found toffee vodka that was seriously lush and would drink quite a lot of that maybe once a week (if not getting up for first lift the next morning - amazingly, it's possible to cook breakfast for 10 even when very hung over !!!)
But since living here, in the winter I am generally driving or skiing early in the morning, so won't drink the night before. In the interseason and summer, I was mostly on my own and never really liked drinking alone at home - although now I have an actual sofa and a normal bed (I no longer have to climb a step ladder to get to bed!) I do sometimes like a rum and something. But only if I'm not doing anything the next morning.
So, on average, even though my home poured rums are not exactly 'measured', I guess I average less than a unit a week
Not sure if that's good or I should be properly ashamed

Yup. You know some outliers

Right bunch of rufty tufty bikers, aren't we? First it turned out that everyone here just worked in IT, now we're all nursing half a shandy once a Christmas.

Re: How much alcohol do you consume per week ?
Too much, to the point that I know I denying having a bit of an issue.
I'm actually typing this sat on a bench in Italy, whilst Mrs Gremlin is enjoying a spa massage desperately trying to avoid getting myself into a bar and having a beer as I won't stop at one but want to keep myself fresh for her birthday meal tonight.
Not sure if it's the alcohol, the familiarity of the taste and setting of a bar or what, but I have to fight the urge to drink sometimes. I know this isn't healthy.

I love drinking ice cold beer on a nice day. Lots of nice days here
I have regular health tests and all perfect. So I'll carry on enjoying it.
I always do dry January and just did 5 weeks off getting in shape for this track event. Never considered it a problem coz i can choose what to drink

I've discovered too late that in that exact scenario zero-alcohol beers actually do make sense. Or at least they do these days, they were terrible for years.gremlin wrote: Fri Sep 12, 2025 3:03 pm getting myself into a bar and having a beer as I won't stop at one but want to keep myself fresh for her birthday meal tonight.
Need to be properly cold though.

I was pleasantly surprised with Guinness Zero, not bad at all. I've tasted way worse 'proper' pints of the black stuff.ChrisW wrote: Fri Sep 12, 2025 8:18 pmI've discovered too late that in that exact scenario zero-alcohol beers actually do make sense. Re: How much alcohol do you consume per week ?
I don't drink at all now, maybe a beer if someone offers me ine or there's no Guinness 0.0 available.
I come from a family with alcoholic tendencies.and have a habit of making silly decisions when I'm drunk. Also I noticed that my tolerance was going through the roof, especially on holiday when I'd start the day off with lager and just keep drinking all day. I was pretty bad at bike rallies when myself and a couple of mates would knock a litre of Smirnoff back each. Saying that, I've never craved alcohol, I just like the taste of beer. With these 0.0s about I can even have one in the truck. They're basically a soft drink. I'm off this week so I had a Guinness Zero with my Ulster fry the other day. It was lush.

Re: How much alcohol do you consume per week ?
At the moment, I probably average 3-4 500ml cans of 7 or 8% larger, 3-4 times a week.Bigjawa wrote: Fri Sep 12, 2025 8:56 pm I don't drink at all now, maybe a beer if someone offers me ine or there's no Guinness 0.0 available.

Though I know I'm an alcoholic. I tell myself all the time that "I won't drink today" and all to often, I find myself popping to the shop to get some beers.
I did have a MAJOR breakthrough yesterday though! Despite saying I wouldn't, when out buying food, I bought 4 cans of strong lager. The breakthrough came in that I didn't drink them, not even one. I thought about it for literally the rest of the day
I'm dieting at the moment and while I can allocate some of 'todays calories' to beer. Once I've had a couple drinks, I'm much much more likely to eat additional food. I've even started referring to beer as 'bad decision juice'.
I'll be impressed/ surprised if those cans are still in the fridge by midnight. Though I'm supposed to have friends coming to stay in the next few days. so I should just not drink until they get here.....

Whist fully condoning everyone’s attempts to reduce alcohol consumption, please be aware that the safe units target, just like the 8g of salt a day and 10000 steps a day have little to do with scientific fact but are generated by government groups.
Whist the guidelines may have a degree of merit , they are not absolute

A bit like the 5-a-day fruit and veg thing. It should probably be higher but setting stretch targets puts people off even trying so 5 helps people get started.Mr Moofo wrote: Sat Sep 13, 2025 8:18 am Whist fully condoning everyone’s attempts to reduce alcohol consumption, please be aware that the safe units target, just like the 8g of salt a day and 10000 steps a day have little to do with scientific fact but are generated by government groups.

I thought it was a bit negative when they lowered the booze units for that reason.

I believe that came from a Japanese company that were trying to market a pedometer. Apparently 8000 is enough.

I don't have five pieces of fruit or veg a year, nevermind a day.Count Steer wrote: Sat Sep 13, 2025 8:40 amA bit like the 5-a-day fruit and veg thing.
