Re: utterly random picture thread.
Had to smile at the 5000 Turkish lira coin.
First time I went I think there were coins for parts of a lira. Every time I went back some vendor would look at various bits of 'shrapnel' I offered, pick some out and throw them away saying 'Kaput!'. I don't think they even had a 5000TL note.
One year I bought a kilim in Konya and, after 2 days of chosing/haggling* had to go to the bank for a million lira...it was a bagful. I handed it over and the bloke started to count it
saying 'Old Turkish proverb...even if you find it in the street...count it!'
Still got the kilim ~50 years later and still delighted with it.
* I'm sure he still said 'sucker!' as I left.

Re: utterly random picture thread.

In medieval times, komusō or "emptiness monks" used the shakuhachi [bamboo-flute] as a spiritual tool. Their songs called "honkyoku" were considered meditation (suizen).
They wore wicker baskets (tengai 天蓋) over their heads, a symbol of their egolessness & world detachment.

Took Penny out for nice lunch and she had a posh coffee, baraquito.
She wanted a straw for it so asked me to Google the translation.
Bit surprised at the last definition .

Wouldn't 'fellatio' have been more appropriate?Yorick wrote: Mon Aug 04, 2025 7:26 pm Took Penny out for nice lunch and she had a posh coffee, baraquito.

I've just bought the Starmer one on ebay for the FiL, who has almost identical political leanings as your good self.
