Solid steel ball thrown into the window....

Faired somewhat better than most windows would. Best hope you never have to leave via the window after an accident. :D

I now have a strong desire for the Tesla pickup. If I'm going to get an eco friendly car I want the most un-eco friendly one possible.

Why does a pickup truck need armoured glass, a big load area that's easy to use would be more use.

If it's to replace the trusty Hilux as the middle eastern militia attack truck of choice, then bullet proof glass would be a good option.

If I couldnt launch a metal ball a shitload faster than that wet blanket I'd be most embarassed.
So I'm not right sure about the bullet proof bit. Not sure their definition of bullets.

Ne'er do well scroats use stones barely bigger than grit to smash car side windows. The techno kids use a sprung auto centrepunch.

That's a tough look to pull off unless you're Metal Mickey, you'd be noticed for all the wrong reasons.
Citrien tried it with the Karin.

I may now have to retract my yearning for a 911 - mate of mine has just been presented with a near £15k bill for work on his 1999 model 996!
I will caveat that as I was after an air cooled model but still.....

996s have a bit of a reputation as the 'slump' in the 911 range due to the number of issues on them. My old boss ended up buying a new 991 shape cause he could not be arsed with the upkeep on his 996.

Interestingly, you can fit an LS3 V8 to them, the V8 is lighter and smaller than the Porsche flat 6 too!

Yep, apparently the loom for the 'vario' system has burnt up and its engine out to fix plus some other service items its needs doing.
Wouldn't be surprised if he sells it once done!

But the it isn't a 911 surely?
The 996s weer ugly, IMS issues - and hence cheap ... 10 years ago you could pick a low mileage one up for sub 17K
For some reason that is no longer the case

I may be wrong but I thought the whole rear engined range was classed as 911 even though actually 911, 993, 996 etc etc?

I think Moofoo is referring to putting a V8 in 911...adding a V8 probably does mean its not a "real" 911 any more.

It just amused me a bit is all, you can replace the stock 3 litre flat 6 with a 6 litre V8 while saving weight and space. :D

Aaahhh, get ya.....

Sure that V8 conversion is good however do like the sound of a flat 6. I'd feel a little short changed with the V8 option

My BiL had an early 996 he bought new in '99. He did almost 100k miles in it without a single fault. Another family member has one of the same year, its a daily driver but he lives in the middle of bristol so not huge mileage but again, no issues. A sample of two is ok yeah? :) :D

Oh, and prices are going north on 996's and 997's. I think its because they are a reasonable size, the 991s onwards seem to be massive?
