I cannot for the life of me understand why this isn't standard operating practice (it is chez Mango), as reversing in to a parking space is so obviously better than the alternative. When you reverse into a (for example) supermarket parking space you don't have to worry about other cars or pedestrians suddenly moving into your target zone; the target zone is clearly defined, obstruction-free and you follow SOP and back the car in. Then when you leave your spot you have full forward visibility and can leave without any fuss or drama.

It should be The Law.
I agree with you in principle. But see above. I’m partly enfeebled in that I find it much easier to simply drop the stuff in the boot than to carry it up the side and round to the back. And please don’t encourage me to open the back doors to bung it in there - scrape scrape bang bang etc.
…and partly NOT enfeebled in that I find it quite easy to reverse out carefully without hitting anyone. So far anyway, but I’m still young. Ish.

On the shopping thing, it should be normal for supermarkets not only to create car spaces that actually have room for a car to open it's doors without automatically hitting the one next to it (ok, not everyone does that, but I have a dink in the rear wing of my lovely Skoda which is certainly from a door in a supermarket :( :( :( )
but ALSO to put a 'path' between the two spaces to enable people to push trolleys to the back of the car to load shopping into the boot - then we can all reverse park and make life easier !!!

I know they won't cos they'll lose too many parking spaces, but they do seem to make spaces for the size cars used to be 30+ years ago, not the monsters that are around now!!

LOL. My ex boss pointed out the staff parking one day last winter and said - you can see the good drivers, the reverse in so that it's easier to drive away !! Not sure he meant good, I parked like that to get away from work as fast and easily as poss when I'd finished :obscene-drinkingcheers: :obscene-drinkingcheers:

Meh, reverse in or reverse out, you're still reversing at some point, and as I've managed to go 35 years without ploughing in to anyone or anything I'll carry on mostly pulling in forwards, or reversing where I think it gains me an advantage.

I usually pay for my shopping, so a quick exit is less necessary.

Reverse in reverse out, who gives a shit so long as you are careful and look properly, had a Volvo xc40 on loan & reversing into a tight spot it nearly shat its pants with all the binging and binging going off, the mirrors were plenty to tell me I wasn't going to hit anything but it was squeezy getting out the door.

Actually, given the size of most cars these days and the meanness of parking slots, I try to park so that my driver's door is next to another's, and the passenger's is also next to another passenger door. This means I (and my neighbour) can get in and out easily even if it means any passenger has to exit before fully parked. So if there are 2 cars pointing outwards with a space between I'll drive in and vice versa.

This may not be much of an issue for the whippersnappers here......

I do my best to park in an end bay, preferably away from the masses.

I also park on ferries, options can include using the other cab door, climbing out through the window, using the rear doors if no bulkhead nor load or staying in the vehicle. The last resort is not taking that sailing and for me that's not a consideration.

I certainly used the side door on the van quite a lot when I'd squeezed it into a car-space. :D

That means you have to park the opposite way to the car on your left, and the opposite way to the car on your right. So you have to find a space between 2 cars parked the same way, and park the opposite way to them.

Too much thinking involved. I’m only going shopping!
