FWIW I hired a Rimor Katamarano 3 for a week a few years ago. I think it was a body put onto a regular van, maybe a Fiat Ducato or Ford Transit. It was just under a grand to hire for a week. It was pretty spacious but everything felt very flimsy, and it was rough and noisy to drive on the motorway. My 2017 Ford Tourneo is way more refined.

If you like the Tourneo’s feel, consider a DIY conversion on a similar chassis: add sound-deadening mats behind panels, upgrade door seals, and replace lightweight cabinetry with sturdier materials. That hybrid approach keeps refinement while letting you customize the living space

Thank you for the suggestions. I'm not looking for a motorhome at the moment though. I may get rid of the Tourneo too as my kids are growing up and coming less these days, so I can generally fit those that do come into a seven seat Prius.

Weeksy, if you want a motorhome, it sounds like that's what you should get. I think they're like houses, none of them are perfect and the good ones are really expensive. I guess it's a case of getting the right one to suit your needs best.

Our campervan has a table area where the driver and passenger chairs swing round to use the table and there is a fixed double seat on the opposite side of the table, so our people can sit and drink or dine etc. It has a fixed bed with good storage underneath, but not enough for mountain bikes. It does have a rear bike rack but the security of having top end bikes in there is an obvious issue.

Your son is young man now, so you need two beds and that pretty much puts a campervan out of the running imo. There is the option of a pop top roof with a double bed up there, and they're okay in warm weather but there is no way you'd want to sleep up there in winter.

IMO, Campervans, much better to drive, and you can actually park them and they are narrow enough to get down smaller roads and lanes. Motorhomes have much more restrictions due to their width and often the overhang at the back. But a MoHo is much better once you're on site. As you're not going touring, its a MoHo all the way, and if you're going to have one it might as well be big enough to offer all the comforts you need.

N.B. Most big MoHos will have a full length wind out awning an you can get rooms to attach to them or just side and front panels, so that should take away the Gazebo issue.

Having had van conversions and converted vans I like them, they have their positive points. We've gone motor home now, A class so comfy as and with a massive boot area. Its definitely a step up from a conversion in many ways. We find we can live in ours whereas with the van conversions we cooked and slept in but spent all the time outside/in the awning.

The shower is a good size too and awning is huge.

I'd go back to van conversions if I wanted speed and short trips, but for the longer trips and comfort the moho wins every time for us.

When we went to view ours, we were greeted by the bloke that cleans the vans saying that the boss was with some people in the next can over and would probably be quite some time with them. That van was £110k
