Gresini no longer the factory Aprilia team
Interesting development. They'll no longer be Aprilia's "factory" team. Given the state of progress it does make you wonder whether this is a step forward for Aprilia.

Interestingly it doesn't actually say what bikes they'll be on... I wonder if that means they won't be on the Aprilia at all.
TBH i don't bloody blame them if not.

You'd wonder just what goes on at Aprilia.
It sounds like a factory with too many chiefs and not enough Indians. It's a pity because the bike isn't miles away,it just never seems to get closer to the top.

If I had to guess I'd say Suzuki.
And yes, Aprilia is just bizarre. Wh

Re: Gresini no longer the factory Aprilia team
Some reports say they are splitting from Aprilia. This one says staying Aprilia...

Satellite Aprilia?! Jesus, that's the worst of all worlds isn't it?!Yorick wrote: ↑Mon Dec 14, 2020 2:30 pm Some reports say they are splitting from Aprilia. This one says staying Aprilia...

I think Suzuki would have to be favourite at the moment and I'm sure they'd like 4 bikes on the grid.
I really can't understand Aprilia, Piaggio is a massive organisation but doesn't seem to be able to put it together. Weird.

They're Italian. Ducati only managed it with an alien on board and have continued to fail despite now mixing it with the Germans. Aprilia are just a very poor man's version by comparison.

Re: Gresini no longer the factory Aprilia team
Thinking about it, perhaps not having interference from the factory and knowing what you're dealing with may make it easier?! See Tech 3 and SIC Racing for KTM and Yamaha respectively. They knew what they were dealing with from day one. In SIC's case it may be that when Yamaha started sending shiny new bits through for Fabio's 20 bike when it looked he was Yamaha's best opportunity for a Championship it went to rat-shit because it changed the plans! Frankie's side of the garage - unmolested by Yamaha - continued to perform!

Re: Gresini no longer the factory Aprilia team
I have posted something about it before but both Sam Lowes and Scott Redding have said the way the team works at present is the reason they have the problems. Aprilia provide the bikes and mechanics, Gresini provide the team structure and all the support and organisation. Quite often the 2 sets of management have differing ideas on what/how things are done.
If Gresini can be left alone with some satellite bikes (i would bet on Suzuki being more likely than Aprilia) then Aprilia can do their own thing which might be better for Gresini.
The only fly in the ointment is that VR46 organisation also want a MotoGP team about the same time and many rumours flying that Suzuki could make them the satellite team. Vale's lot already have the full livery on Luca Marini's Ducati for next year but thats the 3rd string Avintia Ducati. VR46 might take over the Avintia slot completely leaving Gresini as the obvious Suzuki berth
