Driving up the mountain.
Went around a corner, not one of the hairpins but a blind bend none the less to find a car stopped in the middle of the road ( nearer the centre line than the verge/barrier)

I avoided the car and pulled up about 200m ahead (yes, pulling right over the the barrier!) and went back to offer help - at the very least to put the emergency triangle in view pre corner

The woman in the car put the passenger window down and said -

"it's ok, there's no problem, I'm just waiting for a colleague to catch up"


For FUCKS sake, seriously ???

With that she starting the window going up so I shouted through - could you at least pull over to the side or put your triangle on the bend?

No it's ok, I won't be long

So I politely pointed out (in shit french, I lose some of my abilities when I'm angry!!) that I wasn't far off hitting her car (a bit of an exaggeration, but probably a different driver wouldn't have missed her), that she was a serious hazard in the road and it was an exceptionally dangerous place to "wait"

She said she'd pull over to the side a bit more


I ran back up to my car to get in and get away before I punched her, looked in the rear view mirror -

Nope, she didn't drive up and away from the corner to get closer to the barrier - oh nooo, far too sensible FFS.

The stupid bint only reversed down, towards the corner and slightly pulled over - ok, she'd be seen a bit sooner but no chance of seeing if anyone is coming down and if the car driving up could pass or needed an emergency stop


Honestly - some people should NOT be allowed out, let alone allowed a driving licence

Companies House and the new requirement for all company directors to verify their ID. I have spent the best part of 2 hours struggling with their cumbersome system and the app. Eventually succeeded but is a total PITA.

I foresee their computer system crashing when ALL the directors of ALL the companies in the UK have to go through this by the autumn.

I had a similar experience with Amex recently. Government rules appear to necessitate convincing them that I'm still British. 'Take a photo of your passport (or residency permit but not driving licence) and upload it'. Ah...their upload routine doesn't work from a mobile phone.

Move onto laptop. Upload link has time-expired.

To be fair they were, as ever, excellent in their support over the phone. No wait, no rush.

I look forward to repeating your experience with Amex, but not with any great pleasure!

I have 2 cards to use here, one from CH Hoare (posh people banking) and an Amex for backup at the end of the month. Except so many places don't accept Amex, I end up using my own card !!??

Combination of reasons here. Been a member for donkey's years and found it very useful when doing a lot for foreign travel. Their support is first class - their office in Istanbul got me out of an awkward situation once and their telephone support is

I had one of their posh cards that gave me access to various lounges at airports and at Eurostar stations (that I used every week for a while) and came with a v good travel insurance included (skiing was covered).

It enforces discipline (has to be repaid every month - with zero interest) - I had their credit card too for a while but ditched it.

I 'downgraded' when I quit working but still use it a lot. eg on Amazon (and get £points that I use to reduce Amazon payments).

....and finally... ...from experience, they seem like a really good customer-facing business. I like 'em. (I don't actually have any other cards at all other than my bank card).

(Oh, and they support Brighton footy club ).

I use a BA Amex for every bit of normal spending that I can, because of the yearly companion voucher (free flight for a second person, or 50% off a solo flight) and airmiles.

One final Amex thing...when I bought a new motorbike the sales chap said 'How would you like to pay?'

I pointed at the label in the window and said 'I see you take Amex'.

His face was a picture.

(I didn't do it but there is a story about someone buying a £x,000,000 yacht at the big boating beano at Earls Court with theirs The vendors phoned Amex to clear it and Amex got huffy and said 'Our customer's standing with us is none of your concern, please proceed).

I used to have a company Amex and found it useful. Got my own, mainly for US travel (where in some parts Visa is the one places don't accept). Now I have 3, Visa Mcard & Amex as a policy. Useful when I get rung in a foreign country to say my card has been cloned, they have cancelled it and will send me a new one on the post within a week. Happened to me last year.

Yeah. I ought to get another card for emergencies. I had a couple that I canned (Visa and MC) but I'd have to remember to use them occasionally because they now let them lapse if they're not used. (They do warn you first).

The bloody thing completely stripped itself, so I ended up (after a couple of aborted alternatives) hammering one the next size up in to get the bloody thing out. Should have been a five minute job FFS.

That was next on my list to try I'd already tried a rubber band, and a flat head. Next up was Allen, followed by a bigger flat head, followed by setting fire to the fucking thing.

But I have an Apple TV box and I used to ‘throw’ whatever I was watching on the iPad to the apple box and it would show on the tv it was attached to

In the temporary apartment, there is a fing MAHOOSSIVE tv - wayyy too big but I thought, why not. Could watch the MotoGP in Hooge

Being in the middle of a diverticulitis flare up, I haven’t eaten since Sunday morning…………but that looks tempting!
The F invented fake Maccies for us, a muffin, bacon or sausage, plastic cheese and Branston fruity sauce. Lovely.
