I know they make so much sense and how often do you look at you own bike, but I just hate the look of them. I don't work offsite anymore so don't need one to transport my camera kit anywhere, so a backpack it is!

Re: NBT: Ive just bought my forever bike part 3!
When I looked at the sales picture i noted only one of the handguards had a round hole in. Couldn't for the life of me think what it was for and now i've got the bike i don't know either, just an odd drilled hole in only one handguard?
Anyway, it irks me now, so I went onto Fowlers to price up a new one which s £59 plus delivery!
Found a brand spanker on eBay for £35 or near offer with free delivery and they accepted £25.
So, hopefully, I'll get some time this weekend to fit that, the new high seat (if it arrives) the 8x6 number plate and of course the Black Widow exhaust, but I think that's a bit of a faff as it has an exhaust servo which also has to be messed about with, but i'm sure it won't be that much of an issue?

I my original topbox was only 30 litres, I bought my brothers old one off him which is 42l I think. I used to take the topbox off most of the time but now I just leave it on. So handy to throw my lock, puncture kit, waterproofs, lunch, water etc and forget about it. Then when I get somewhere I can stick my lid and gloves in and don't need to carry them about. They look shit but I'm passed that now.Taipan wrote: Thu Jun 12, 2025 11:15 amI know they make so much sense and how often do you look at you own bike, but I just hate the look of them. Best thing about topboxes is, I could l leave all my kit in there, then sneak out of work with no one realising I was leaving early.

I've always hated the way they look and I always mocked my parents for adding them to every bike they buy.

I find they don't look so bad - if you put panniers on as well.
(On their own they do rather look like a Deliveroo/pizza job).

I'm way to fat and ugly to be able to criticise anyone or anything else for not looking good

And for commuting daily a big topbox is essential

Yeah i just don't care... to be honest, no-one cares, no-one is fawning over your bike anyway. If a top-box is useful, get one on there.

I dislike the look but the convenience more than makes up for that!
I did prefer my Ventura setup as you could leave a small rack on it or just a grab handle, or you could put a massive luggage bag (or a smaller one). That made far more sense to me. Wonder if that will be available for whatever I end up with!!!

Re: NBT: Ive just bought my forever bike part 3!
I suppose as its an Adventure bike, its pretty suited to having one, but it still ain't getting one. I'm not sure I could get on the thing with one of those in the way anyway?
Filled it up for the first time yesterday and it gets about 20mpg less than the X-ADV. That said I don't think 53mpg is bad for an 1100?
There may be an issue with the bike! Sometimes it holds its revs about 2k, instead of dropping straight back to idle and occasionally the idle feels lumpy? Google tells me this is not unusual with this model, but I didnt exactky see a cure, although, tbf, I didnt really look that hard. The bike is low mileage and has been sitting about, so i'll run a few tanks of BPs finest through it and see what its like than. Main problem is the dealership is 150 miles away and not sure I CBA taking back there. Downside to distance buying I suppose?
I seem to be really gelling with the bike though. Maybe because I've had one before, but I feel very it home on it and love riding it. The sitting upright riding position seems to be doing my back a favour too! All in all, the idle issue aside, its been a great first week of ownership and next week should be even better with the higher seat and Black Widow exhaust on!

Idle problem? I had a few of my team suffer from this. Do the same as I did: get rid of it.
