CCM Enter Administration

Post by KungFooBob »

Shame really, but I guess rehashing the same bike over and over again isn't going to sell.

Shame, but, yes understandable. I remember seeing Vic Eastwood hurtling one around a track near us when a lot of people were on RMs etc. I had a couple and despite their reputation they were great bikes. Another British name gone...

I'm sure they've gone into administration before?? I thought between the last lot of models and the latest hipster ones.

It is a shame, but I'm guessing as someone mentioned how long can you survive making £10k plus single cylinder bikes with one model for the last god knows how many years with very slightly different cosmetics. I'm sure they had some new models planned, but never seen on in the flesh or tested??

A few! First I recall was 1987 when they were making the Armstrong CCMs (my eldest brother got a great deal on one still in the crate during the administration).

I remember wandering around their stand at the NEC a couple of years ago and wondering how on earth thay could stay in business making about a dozen, small volume, versions of the same (expensive) bike. If you're flavour of the month then all is well, but if the prevailing wind turns against you, you're stuffed.

Loved the look of the early CCM's built with BSA bits & bobs but the latest ranges with the back wheel trailing behind you do nothing for me plus there being a limited market for selling 600cc 55bhp singles for £10k to £23k especially when BSA & Enfield are mopping up your would be customers at the £5k price bracket.

Don't forget the Chinese copy of a self destructing Italian Husqvarna engine that powers it.

I looked at that photo for far too long before I figured out how those spokeless wheels are working.

Have a hankering for a 644 sm one went for £900 on ebay the other week. Insurance costs put me off as anything vaguely mx seems to be a thieving scrote magnet.

The 604 or 640RS? They did a mock up police bike version with panniers and a topbox for one of the shows.
