'To run lotteries or raffles that will have ticket sales of more than £20,000 each, or £250,000 in a calendar year, you'll need to apply for a licence from us. If your lottery or raffle is smaller than this, you can register with your local authority'.
Looks and sounds like it's a mess!

They don't universally have this aspect do they?
It's a pretty wooly grey area at present innit.

I don't think there's anyone on here who is not well aware it's gamblingdern wrote: Wed May 28, 2025 8:02 amAll of them, it’s gambling. There’s no winning in the long term otherwise the companies wouldn’t exist.Eclipse wrote: Fri May 23, 2025 7:14 pm Which are the legit competition websites that wont be ripping people off ?
@Taipan keep a spreadsheet of everything you spend on the sites against the value of what you win as a balance against this stream of “opportunities”
You gave a legitimate reason why they don't need a licence in your previous postCount Steer wrote: Wed May 28, 2025 8:47 amYet they say -dern wrote: Wed May 28, 2025 8:44 am They’re not regulated by the gambling commission… https://www.gamblingcommission.gov.uk/p ... ate%20them.

They operate within the law, that the law needs changing and can't keep up with trends is another kettle of fish.Count Steer wrote: Wed May 28, 2025 8:36 am
Doesn't look like they're doing a great job.

Ah. I've never entered one but assumed they didn't. Thought that was more those annoying ones like they had on the TdF coverage - win a bike and £2k worth of kit, 'What animal goes 'oink'?' sort of thing.weeksy wrote: Wed May 28, 2025 9:03 amYeah they all have a qualifier question now.Mr. Dazzle wrote: Wed May 28, 2025 9:01 amCount Steer wrote: Wed May 28, 2025 8:36 am Since there's no skill, knowledge or judgement required* lotteries should all be licenced by the Gambling Commission so it's their job to make sure people aren't getting ripped off.

That's my recollection too. I certainly recall many of them do have a question, but I also recall some don't.Taipan wrote: Wed May 28, 2025 9:30 am They dont all have qualifier questions. Aspire doesn't and theres another coiuple that i cant think of right now...
