Biking regrets.... bikes, trips, plans, missed purchases/projects.

Was just browsing and saw the SC1000 i used to own, well, not it, but another one.

Part of me at times is gutted that at the time i didn't keep the SC1000. Then about a year or so, or was it 2, i had the option to buy it back from B..
I took it out for a ride and set myself in my head i was buying it from him again.... I got home and rang him straight away, but no answer. For some reason, in the next day or so i changed my mind and decided to not buy it. But there's deffo a twinge of regret associated with it.

My other regret i guess is not having another season at racing, i only dabbled in racing back in the day and i'm not convinced that i put all i had into it. I'd never have got where i wanted with it, which was to race the Manx/IOM but that was purely down to lack of ability. However, i'd like to think if i'd carried on i could have picked up more than the 1 trophy i had.

This was my 916 race bike, blueprinted and gasflowed engine, big exhaust, Ohlins bits, Brembo bike, 5 spoke Marchesini wheels, STM slipper clutch.

I can't think of any regrets. I raced 8 years and stopped when it felt right. I instructed 15 years and stopped when I chose.
Toured every year.

Been lucky.

I didn't buy some Kawasaki triples back when they were dirt cheap.

Even bits in boxes are stupid money now.

Buying a GSX750ET instead of a Honda CB750F, I bought the GSX because I thought it would be more reliable than the Honda, then discovered that the GSX liked to perform oil changes while going along (the sump plug came undone), I suspect the subsequent lack of oil was the cause of the big ends failing on the centre cylinders at Santa Pod
Selling my first YPVS to a mate when I didn't need the money
Touring holidays - it took a few goes before working out it's not for me
Not doing more Ultimate Streetbike drag racing in the late 80s - it was great fun, drag racing was big at the time, but it's something I can revisit
Maybe not enough visits to Chelsea Bridge and Heston during the years they were lively

That's it really, not bad for 37 years of biking

Recently thought I should have been more adventurous with my choices - scratching that itch with my CBR-
Always trying to ride more but life gets in the way - now my son is older I don't feel guilty swanning off for half the day.Also I've realised that I prefer riding on my own mostly and that's ok

Bought a 996 as a toy, I was also looking at SP1s and RS250s at the same time.

The Ducati had an oil pressure issue about 1000 miles after I bought it leading to bearing problems. Ended up flogging it to Forza Italia for a fair bit less than I paid for it.

If I'd bought the SP1 I'd probably still have it and it'd be worth more than I paid for it. Ditto the RS250

Regretted missing out on Norway trip with Abel and Funners on the GS's 10 years ago but scratched the itch 4 years ago although Funners couldnt make it this time.

Should have tried harder to keep the 250LC when i was 21 and should have tried harder to get the GPz750R gearbox repaired rather than getting rid

I've bought/sold every bike for a reason, might have been a shit reason, or poor man maths, but bikes is bikes, innit.

Even a shit bike is betterer than no bike.

Never riding my KE100 with the front ski attachment. I made it in a fit of enthusiasm after some snow and there's not been any up here to speak of since.

A mate's got 3 SP1s (including a very trick Moriwaki one) they barely get ridden, but go wrong every time he uses one of them, usually electrical problems that knock out the ignition module - I think the module is about £600, even his Bimotas are more reliable.

I thought they were reliable bikes, but his seem to have been nothing but trouble - but it's probably him, he's got at least 11 bikes, and all of them have issues.
