Zzr1100d
Re: Zzr1100d
Change of plan, I'm keeping it for the time being.
So I thought I'd do a trial fit of the zrx1200nrear wheel that I've had for over a year.
It kinda fits, the sprocket side lines up all ok with the zzr11 spacer but the other side the brake mount needed persuasion to get past the wheel and onto the disc, the spacer that side is too long by about 2mm
I'm going to adjust it this week
It seems it's quite a bit lighter, I'll weigh it and compare

Re: Zzr1100d
I've played that game with putting CBR400 wheels on a CB-1. 150 (160?) rear for a 140, 120 front for a 110.
The wheel and tyre combination will definitely have a weight difference one way or the other, but you won't know how much of it it the tyre unless you strip it off. In my case I was weighing one wheel with a racing radial and one with a road riding bias ply tyre, so it wasn't really fair. Either way, it's interesting to compare the weights of the assemblies.

Re: Zzr1100d
I will be interested to hear how the zrx wheel change goes. I am at the moment wanting, fancying or needing to check out the idea of buying myself another ZZR1100 and so I am curious to hear about mods that are simple or perhaps not. I have an zxr12 wheel in the shed with a brand new tyre. That could be a starting point.Ssray wrote: Sun Mar 09, 2025 9:56 pm Change of plan, I'm keeping it for the time being.

Thanks, I'm going to attempt the file method, the trouble is I'm not sure I could accurately measure it, at least with the file I can try it every few strikesDixiethedog wrote: Mon Mar 10, 2025 2:50 pm I have a lathe, if you need any help with spacers give me a shout.

Re: Zzr1100d
Today I finally had a proper go on the zzr
Feeling much better, I wasn't chucking it around as the rear tyre is from 2013(I think) and it's a rounder profile Bridgestone as opposed to the pirelli that was fitted to the other wheel.
I wasn't expecting better smoother acceleration but I've got it, the gearing is 2.6% lower as it's got one tooth more o the rear sprocket.

Re: Zzr1100d
I've wanted to adjust the rear shock for a while, it's a right bugger to get to, tank, seat, rear bodywork and plastic under tray off.
I removed the last bit of preload, only a few mm then I rang hagon to ask about the damping adjustment...... seems you can easily get to it without removing the shock.
If this doesn't cure the over sprung (iny opinion) rear end I'll be looking for a lower rated Spring

Re: Zzr1100d
Today on some a roads it feels better, steering possibly a bit heavy so maybe raise the forks 8-10mm , the rear end would actually move when I stood up an bounced it a bit , static sag.......not sure it's got any
I'll adjust the damping next

Re: Zzr1100d
New tyres time, I was searching through evilbay for a part worn pirelli angel and I happend across two Peeps selling new pilot road in the correct size, one 5 GT and the other 6gt.
First thing was to check they were ok on the zzr11 as they are in GT variety
First thing I checked was if the GT (slightly stiffer overall) was ok for the zzr, the BMW's etc they are aimed at are only from about 15kg heavier than the others, I also contacted a mate in a tyre shop and Michelin confirmed that homoglation (?) was in place having been tested on both GT and normal road 6.
I won the road 6 GT's for £194 posted and a local tyre place (car) fitted them for £20
Local bike shops wanted £25-40 each, I'll balance them myself.
First ride, too much pressure in the front, think it was about 40psi, reduced to 36 and it's much more nimble on its toes, I went from 5-6k old pirelli angel to these.
It seemed a bit too much compared to.the old tyres, stable in a straight line but wanted to tip in much quicker, remembering I've fitted different wheels and have lost approx 3kg from the rear and abut 1kg from the front,.
It goes well, local 40-50.a road, most overtaking is just in top gear rolling on and off, changing down helps a lot.
I've only done about 45 miles so far, head races are next on the list, they have been shown as not the best anymore

Re: Zzr1100d
When I first fitted the road 6's I thought they were a bit tippy and I reduced the tyre pressure to 36psi as I usually run the zzr at 41 psi.
I adjusted the forks a bit, I pulled them through the yokes a bit more, std is about 7mm and I think I'm now on 14mm, I used my digital caliper to discover that they were at 3 and7mm before.
I've gone back to 51psi in the front now, it feels much better, not quicker steering but more neutral.
I also realised I had the chain adjusters at the top which explains the occasional panic when putting a foot down
