A Superb Overhaul

Right. 2013 Skoda Superb Estate with 108000 miles on it. Just had new discs and pads installed all round.

Decided to bite the bullet and ordered up Bilstein Shocks front and rear and Bilstein springs front and rear. Drop links included as well front and rear and the one time bolts/nuts kits for the suspension. Will think about the sway bar rubbers, I can get poly ones for £25 for either end of the car. I am also going to think about engine bits and belts. I just enjoy driving the car, it is spacious, returns 40+ mpg on the motorway and does exactly what I need it to do from the little 1.4TSi engine.

Farming the work out to a local mechanic shop, they quoted £250 to do the job and that saves me a lot of back ache and messing about. May include brake fluid flush/renew as they were way cheaper than the last lot of chancers!

The delivery is supposed to come today/tomorrow (EVRI is not updating its app - supposed to have been delivered on Saturday)... All ordered from AutoDoc and they do excellent YouTube tutorials as well for lots of basic and not so basic mechanics. Good prices and good quality items as well.

Will soon have a smooth chariot ride! Swinging Low.

All the parts are now gathered. Time to contact the mechanic on Monday to arrange a day/time for the fitment.

Uncanny. I used AutoDoc just last month for front springs and shocks. Drop links and track rod ends. Bought a new N/S hub also as one wheel stud threads were buggered. Noticed they do handy videos for swapping out the hub.

I'm hoping for a transformed ride. But recognise I may have to invest in more bushings etc.... but at least I've got the majority of the stuff being sorted.

Yeah i have a few knocks and bangs and had a burst spring. This wee Citroen can get up to 60mpg and its in not bad condition so we decided to spend some money and keep it for as long as possible. Few bushed in the rear want done also then an oil cooler. Should sail its next MOT

Yay. Car booked in for Thursday morning first thing. So it can have that refresh and be nice to drive over the weekend. Do have lots of miles to cover in-between taking all the Easter Services.

Shocks and Springs done, drop links, new shock covers, bump stops and bolts. They also changed the serpentine belt for me and checked all the bushings (they are fine). The did not refresh the brake fluid as the bleed nipples were all too tight and they did not want to snap them, especially as I need the car for the next few days. The brakes are fine (new discs and pads all round), so that is not an issue at all. So now I will look at replacing the callipers with new ones and may even do the soft brake lines with steel coated ones. All in all the car is now very nicely maintained.

The suspension is much smoother now and it sits that much higher too. I can get over a speed bump without scraping the sills. The old springs were finished, and one of the shocks at the rear was weeping. So good timing on them being changed out.

Why not replace the brake lines with the copper ones? Its all i have ever used and with no issues.

Done a longer trip now, motorways, country roads, chased by bikes and BMW's and the mighty Skoda held its own nicely on the twisties. No longer does it roll about moaning, it is now taught, sharp and still slow. But it is so much more comfortable and much more confidence inspiring under breaking and cornering. Nice to have the well sprung corners not bottoming out and wallowing. Worth every penny!

Been a couple of weeks. Done about 1000 miles now, it is really so much better. Very happy with the difference in ride height and comfort. Car is handling way better and although no sports car, does at least hold the road much better now and there is also less wheel spin if pulling off quickly as they are in better contact with the road, so less wheel hop. Next up is the issue of the seized brake nipples (I shall seize them and twiddle them vigorously!). Lots of PlusGas, being careful not to contaminate the discs.

Funny you should post this as i just finished the front end of the wifes car. Hub, Shocks, springs, Drop links, track rod ends and ball joints. New drive shafts 5 or six weeks ago. Tonight was the first time i took it out on the open road and some distance. Its like driving a new car. Small thump from a rear wish bone but ill worry about that if it fails the next MOT. Well Chuffed
