No, it's too early for that.. There's not budget for that for another 18 months. THEN there'll be a different vehicle (or an additional one maybe) with space and beds.... but deffo not for this trip unless i can magic up £40,000

I bought a self inflating one, but I would guess only about 30mm thick, absolute shite. Too uncomfortable, prefer the thicker blow up jobbies.

Just had a closer look at what you've bought. I suspect they'll be

I've got a Big Agnes Rapide SL and bought it because it's very small when packed up and offers very good insulation. I've used it many times and it's been excellent.

Built for speed, not comfort.. There's a gal at my local boozer, 5' 10, maybe 110lb dripping wet, but looks like she's smuggling a pair of Arai's in her shirt.

Probably wouldn't take much effort on my part to bed her, but I have this nagging doubt that if she got on top I'd be risking hip fractures.

I'm going to be sleeping in Spain insulation isn't an issue.

I'd rather spend £10 for a yoga mat and then throw the blow-up on top. This was £60 and offers the best part of fuck all in truth. I wasn't expecting miracles, but was hoping for a bit more. I'm all for throwing piles of money at semi-pointless shit... but it has to be a bit useful.

Once upon a time i was with you..but now i spend less on shite and generally if it doesn't blow me away, it goes back. Things have to have a proper 'value' for me to justify them.

I'm a bit surprised at that. They're supposed to be 5cm thick which is way thicker than my Kampamat. I'd have probably played around with the pressure a bit. Certainly with the thinner mats you need them pretty well solid as any give in them and your hip-bones hitting the floor. Maybe a bit less pressure in the thicker ones?

But if they're going back it's moot anyway.

Back when I was daft enough to sleep under canvas I found the same thing. Airbeds are noisy and uncomfortable. I then invested in some expensive self-inflating jobbies, ditto.

Then one day I was looking on eBay and saw somebody local to me was flogging two canvas/metal tube ex-army beds. They only sat a few inches off the ground, but a complete game-changer.

I still use the same canvas+tubes one I used when I was a boy scout and it was old back then too!

No idea where it actually came from, my parents just always had it.

My camping mat use has evolved from karrimats, through self-inflating mats, to lightweight inflatables. We're talking budget models in all cases. And, for context, I only weigh 65 kg. But fwiw I now use a Decathlon inflatable mat like this:

It's easy to carry and, for me, does the job OK.
