Solar Chargers

Post by MrLongbeard »

Them what for a regular car 12V battery.
Anyone use them / recommend a model? Looks like my car is going to sit unused for many weeks in a row and I'll need to keep the battery tip top for the odd occasion I do need to drive.

There are a million different cheap and possible nasty ones on Amazon, but so far the only ones that look worth while (trustable) are https://www.optimate.co.uk/solar-off-grid/

I have one on my boat, which doesn't get a lot of use. I bought a 20W solar panel (about £25) and a Victron MPPT 75/10 solar controller (£42) and it's worked well for the last couple of years. The controller will handle a much bigger panel if needed, and it bulk charges the battery if it's low and then goes into "float" mode to keep it charged, bluetooth to a Victron app as well so you can see how much it has needed charging, historic battery voltage graphs etc.
