ME, i'd be somewhere over Bognor Regis way, but the problem you'll have is that coastal towns/areas are always chaotic at weekends etc.

If the UK is included,then your 4 or 5 big ones could get you a house along the Antrim coast. There are secluded places a little inland and marinas dotted here and there.

In certain company you may need to keep quiet about any association with the British army,though.

The new forest would be nice, Beaulieu would be perfect but not on my budget which is 300-400k.
That sort of cash up north would get a really nice place.

A mate has recently moved to the New Forest for that sort of money. The downside is the traffic at weekends during the summer.

You've said what your budget is, but what do you want (or need)?

Around here (West Berkshire), £400k could get you a three bed semi, or more depending on location.

Short drive to the coast? Well, we dip out on that, it's 40 minutes or so to Portsmouth. How important is the marina aspect? Perhaps find the waters you would like to sail and work from that?

What else do you want in the area? We have three good hospitals in easy reach, theatres, you can be in London in an hour, or drive to woods and hills in just a few minutes.

You might want to check marina pricing before you decide on an area. Practical Boat Owner magazine used to do an annual guide IIRC.

You'd get a decent house round here for that, but it wouldn't be fantastic. Personally I think the forests of East Anglia are nicer than the New Forest, but the downsides of East Suffolk are that it's flat, can be fecking cold in winter and spring and that it's become a retirement area and is full of old gits, and before anyone mentions inbreeds, try finding anyone born in Suffolk in Woodbridge.

I'd quite fancy Scotland, maybe near Oban. Fantastic scenery and biking roads on your doorstep.

Quite like it where we are. On the north east coast. 30 mins to Whitby, 20 mins to the North York Moors. 30 mins to the Yorkshire Dales/Durham dales. 90 mins to the Lake District.

And my office, 15 mins away, looks over a large Marina.

House prices are sensible too, you would get a lot for your money in one of the villages around here.

I could happily live in Hayle, Cornwall. Not too touristy and great location. Went down there every year for 25 years as my pal had the Bucket of Blood Pub.
